District Transportation Supervisor

Transportation Supervisor Fowler School District R4J is seeking a qualified and dependable individual to serve as the Transportation Supervisor. This position is responsible for the overall operation of the District's student transportation program, including bus routes and schedules, driver supervision and training, vehicle maintenance, required inspections, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and coordination of transportation services for daily routes, field trips, activities, and special events.
The Transportation Supervisor works under the direction of the Superintendent (directly), Principal (indirectly), and Athletic Director (indirectly), and plays an important role in ensuring that students are transported safely, efficiently, and reliably. Primary Responsibilities The Transportation Supervisor will: Plan, organize, direct, and oversee the District's transportation operations.
Demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills and have the ability to manage a transportation program in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. Develop and maintain regular and special education bus routes and schedules. Evaluate bus stops, road conditions, weather conditions, and other factors affecting the safe transportation of students.
Coordinate transportation for field trips, athletic events, activities, and other special events. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate transportation department personnel. Provide and coordinate driver training, including defensive driving instruction and other required training. Ensure compliance with applicable District policies, state laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and safety standards.
Oversee the inspection, maintenance, repair, servicing, and cleaning of District buses and other vehicles. Possess and maintain the required certification to complete annual inspections of District school buses and ensure that all required annual inspections are completed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and requirements.
Maintain appropriate transportation, personnel, maintenance, inspection, and operational records. Respond to transportation-related questions and concerns from parents, staff, and community members. Work closely with school administrators and District staff to coordinate transportation services and address student transportation or behavior concerns.
Develop and administer the transportation department budget and monitor expenditures. Assist with long-range planning, cost analysis, and recommendations related to the replacement, acquisition, and disposition of buses, vehicles, equipment, and related resources. Prepare reports and maintain records as required. Communicate and coordinate with District staff, outside agencies, and other organizations as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Qualifications, Licenses, & Requirements: The successful candidate is required to possess and maintain: A valid Colorado Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate school bus, passenger, and air brake endorsements. A valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate or other current medical certification as required by applicable regulations.
Current infant, child, and adult CPR certification. Certification to complete required annual school bus inspections. Any other licenses, certifications, or training required by Colorado law, the Colorado Department of Education, or Fowler School District R4J. A minimum of 6 months of experience in school transportation is required.
Experience supervising and evaluating employees is preferred. Knowledge of bus routing, scheduling, vehicle maintenance, and applicable transportation laws and regulations is preferred. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures is required. Strong oral and written communication skills is required Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public is required.
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and respond effectively to changing conditions and emergencies is required. Commitment to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality transportation services to Fowler School District students is required. This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to alcohol and controlled substance testing in accordance with applicable law and District policy.
Working Conditions The 12-month position involves work in office, school, transportation, maintenance, and outdoor environments. The Supervisor may be required to work in adverse weather conditions and may occasionally work evenings, early mornings, and/or other variable hours as necessary to meet the needs of the District.
The position may involve exposure to traffic, vehicle exhaust, fumes, dust, oil, grease, and other conditions associated with transportation and vehicle maintenance operations.

Salary and benefits will be determined based on qualifications and experience and in accordance with the applicable Fowler School District R4J policies and procedures.
