What's The Role The Planning and Design Coordinator i s responsible for the design and documentation of the company’s fiber optic and Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) networks. This role integrates proficiency in design software such as CAD, Lode Data, GIS, and KMZ systems with project coordination and field collaboration to ensure that network documentation, design, expansion, optimization, and customer connectivity meet industry standards.

The coordinator leverages technical tools to produce precise layouts, applies effective design practices, and delivers accurate documentation that supports the organization’s strategic objectives.

What You'll Do

Develop Fiber and Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network layouts for B2B/B2C customers and GPON expansion projects, applying design principles and industry standards. Create and update HFC and Fiber/PON infrastructure designs that provide connectivity/backhaul from Company Central Office locations to distribution points using CAD, Lode Data, GIS, and KMZ systems.

Record and maintain accurate documentation of existing as-built fiber and HFC networks, to support business as usual, projects and ongoing network planning. Maintain engineering databases, system maps, and design documentation, ensuring accurate electronic storage and backup of the company’s fixed distribution networks.

This includes existing and new infrastructure that provides backhaul or connectivity between head ends, fiber terminals, TAPs, and service towers Capture and update as-built changes, business as usual expansions and new project data as per engineering team guidelines ensuring that documentation reconciles with active network design.

Utilize and maintain assigned hardware/software to perform outside plant planning and design functions. Generate and share design outputs in required formats to support construction, expansion and connectivity activities. Perform fiber tracing and testing to identify faults, verify available strands, and calculate routing distances as part of design quality assurance.

Ensure all designs adhere to organizational and industry best practices. Perform site surveys and pole‑walk audits to collect GPS coordinates and field data, and prepare make‑ready documentation required for pole attachment compliance, engineering analysis, and construction planning. Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare work estimates for construction and maintenance activities.

Provide remote and onsite support to field service teams during new builds, changes, or maintenance activities. Assist junior colleagues and other departments in skill development to ensure continuity of operations. Work with internal and external partners to execute planning and design responsibilities with minimal supervision.

What You'll Need

Associate degree or equivalent in an engineering design discipline Technical certification or Diploma in Fiber Optic and HFC network design. 9 + years of experience in an advanced role in Telecom/ICT outside plant design/architecture. Proven experience in outside plant architecture and the design of HFC/RF, FTTH, and PON fiber networks.

Proficiency in network design software including CAD, Lode Data and GIS software and KMZ files. In-depth knowledge of GPON, HFC/RF systems, and fiber indexing methodologies Must be able to accurately interpret outside plant design maps. Ability to perform quality control checks and produce high-quality designs. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Capable of prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines Proficient in computer operations and the Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong command of productivity tools.
