School Bus Mechanic

Foley Public Schools � Independent School District 51 Foley, Minnesota 56329 Position: School Bus Mechanic Location: Foley Public Schools Bus Garage Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Pay: Competitive wage based on experience and qualifications Application Deadline: Open until filled, or as determined by the district Position Available Foley Public Schools is seeking a dependable, skilled, and safety-focused School Bus Mechanic to maintain and repair the district's school buses and transportation vehicles.

This position plays an important role in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students throughout the school year. The ideal candidate will have mechanical knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and dependable school bus fleet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on school buses and district vehicles. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, air brake systems, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and other mechanical components. Troubleshoot engine warning lights, electronic controls, and emissions systems. Complete required vehicle safety inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records.

Identify mechanical and safety concerns and complete repairs in a timely manner. Maintain shop equipment, tools, and a clean, safe work environment. Assist with emergency repairs and vehicle breakdowns as needed. Coordinate maintenance needs and vehicle readiness with the Transportation Director. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance preferred. Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, and diagnostic equipment. Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs. Valid driver's license required.

Applicable Minnesota school bus inspection credentials, or willingness to obtain them, as required for assigned duties. CDL and school bus endorsements preferred if driving duties are assigned. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.
