Job description

Laborer Reports to : Field Leadership (Key/Lead Tradesperson, Foreman) and/or Field Coordinator FLSA Status : Non-exempt Hours : As directed by crew leader. Hours may vary depending on project requirements and schedules. Saturdays may be required to meet job deadlines or operational needs. Job Location : As directed General Overview : Laborers support a variety of heavy civil scopes of work, including paving, earth retention, concrete, utility placement, grading, and bridge construction, through the completion of physical tasks.

Responsibilities

Completes assigned tasks within designated scope of work Operates hand and power tools safely and efficiently Maintains all Company tools and equipment; reports maintenance needs promptly Communicates with crew members and supervision regarding progress, safety, and equipment needs Maintains a clean and safe work area Assist with setup and teardown of job area Assist with building and repairing roads, highways, and bridges Assist with laying pipe Assist with placing and finishing concrete Assist with job site housekeeping Assist with grade checking Communicates with supervision regarding training and safety equipment uncertainty; Ability to work outside in all types of conditions; Knows and adheres to all Company policies and procedures Performs other duties as assigned This list is non-exhaustive.

Job responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of construction practices and procedures within designated scope of work, knowledge of basic grading techniques. Skilled in operation of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment. Ability to maintain clear and safe communication, ability to work in all weather conditions, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including shoveling, digging and raking, ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist and climb for extended periods, ability to maintain balance and coordination on uneven or slippery surfaces, ability to work around loud noises and heavy machinery, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, ability to learn new skills.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age Must be a union member or able to complete union sign up within 30 days of hire OSHA 10-Hour Certification (30-Hour preferred), or ability to obtain appropriate certification Must successfully pass a drug screening (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a SUPR Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana.)
