Description of Responsibilities The Vice President of Operations (VP of Operations) shall provide senior operational leadership across all pharmacy operations of Fountain. Rx, with direct accountability for both specialty and non-specialty pharmacy lines of service. The VP of Operations shall set operational strategy, establish performance standards, and drive continuous improvement across all functions within the operations portfolio.

This role serves as the primary operational link between executive leadership and the pharmacy operations team, translating strategic direction into day-to-day execution and measurable results. The VP of Operations shall work collaboratively with peer executives to advance organizational goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver an exceptional experience to patients, providers, and payers.

The VP of Operations bears ultimate accountability for the operational performance and shall ensure that both functions are staffed, resourced, and led to meet Fountain. Rx's operational, clinical, service, and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

of the Vice President of Operations include the following: Strategic Leadership and Planning

  1. Provide senior operational leadership across all pharmacy operations, setting organizational priorities, performance standards, and operational goals aligned with Fountain. Rx's mission, growth objectives, and strategic plan.
  2. Partner with the Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Partners to develop and execute the operational strategy for both specialty and non-specialty pharmacy service lines.
  3. Identify and evaluate opportunities for service line expansion, operational improvement, technology adoption, and workflow optimization across the operations portfolio.
  4. Represent pharmacy operations in executive leadership forums, contribute to organizational planning and policy development, and serve as the primary operational voice in cross-functional decision-making. Operations and Performance Management
  5. Establish, monitor, and drive performance against operational key performance indicators for specialty and non-specialty pharmacy operations, including prescription throughput, turnaround times, quality metrics, payer and hub performance, and patient and provider satisfaction.
  6. Oversee daily operations through direct reports, ensuring efficient workflows, high-quality service delivery, and adherence to all operational procedures across prescription processing, specialty medications, non-specialty fulfillment, and delivery.
  7. Monitor operational performance across both service lines, identify issues and risks promptly, and direct the development and implementation of corrective action plans and process improvement initiatives.
  8. Leverage technology and data to support operational decision-making, drive efficiency, and enhance the patient and provider experience; coordinate with applicable IT and pharmacy system leadership on system improvements and staff training.
  9. Maintain and enforce communication standards across verbal, written, and electronic channels with patients, providers, manufacturers, and payers. Revenue Cycle, Payer, and Manufacturer Relations
  10. Provide operational oversight for billing, claims processing, reimbursement, hub operations, benefits investigations, prior authorizations, and claim resolution across specialty and non-specialty service lines.
  11. Collaborate with the VP of Payer Relations and applicable department leadership to ensure payer and manufacturer metrics are met and maintained; provide operational leadership in resolving complex payer, hub, and reimbursement issues.
  12. Oversee manufacturer relations at the operational level, including hub coordination, Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) compliance, patient financial assistance programs, and adherence to manufacturer reporting and training requirements.
  13. Identify and assess revenue cycle and payer opportunities to optimize operational profitability; coordinate with Finance and Accounting on reimbursement challenges and revenue performance. Quality, Compliance, and Regulatory Oversight
  14. Ensure that all pharmacy operations within scope comply with applicable federal and state regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  15. Direct regular operational audits and quality reviews across specialty and non-specialty pharmacy functions; ensure findings are addressed promptly and that corrective actions are documented and sustained.
  16. Coordinate with HIPAA Privacy and Security leadership to ensure compliance with data privacy and security requirements across operations; ensure staff training and adherence to applicable protocols.
  17. Escalate material compliance concerns, regulatory issues, or patient safety matters to the Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Partners without delay. Team Leadership and Development
  18. Provide direct leadership, guidance, and performance management to the Senior Director of Specialty Operations and the Director of Non-Specialty Pharmacy Operations; set clear performance expectations, conduct annual performance reviews, and support professional development.
  19. Hold direct reports accountable for the recruitment, retention, development, and performance of their respective teams; ensure that operations are adequately staffed and that personnel are positioned for success.
  20. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care across the operations portfolio.
  21. Coordinate effectively with peer departments including Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Purchasing, and clinical pharmacy leadership to ensure cohesive operations and shared organizational outcomes. Governance, Reporting, and Administration
  22. Report to the Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Partners promptly, accurately, and professionally on operational performance, material issues, strategic progress, and resource needs; participate in routine management meetings, reporting cycles, and strategic planning sessions.
  23. Maintain documented procedures, cross-training coverage, and succession awareness for critical operational functions to reduce key-person risk and support continuity of operations.
  24. Other projects, activities, or responsibilities assigned at the discretion of the Chief Strategy Officer, Managing Partners, or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, or a related field required; advanced degree (MBA, MHA, PharmD, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare, pharmacy, or specialty pharmacy setting, including at least three (3) years in a senior or executive operational role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing managers and directors; proven ability to hold leaders accountable through structured performance management.
  • Broad operational knowledge spanning specialty pharmacy, non-specialty pharmacy, hub operations, billing and reimbursement, and payer relations.
  • Experience with pharmacy or healthcare management systems, electronic health records, and technology-driven workflow optimization.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state pharmacy regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, REMS programs, and HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, drive performance improvement, and lead through change in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to translate data into operational decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, clinical staff, payers, manufacturers, and patients.
  • Proficiency in standard business software; experience with pharmacy or healthcare management platforms preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to pharmacy locations as required. Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and bending is required, as is occasional lifting and carrying of records, supplies, or equipment weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Travel to pharmacy operating locations is required at least quarterly and more frequently as operational needs dictate; valid driver's license required.
