What You'll Do

Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machining centers to produce precision-machined steel rolls and components. Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications. Perform machine set-ups, including tooling, fixturing, workpiece alignment, and program verification. Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM software.

Make program and offset adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and improve machining efficiency. Operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders, for secondary and specialized operations. Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments. Troubleshoot machining issues, tooling wear, and dimensional inconsistencies.

Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain a safe, organized work environment. Collaborate with engineering, programming, quality, and production teams to support continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

7+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience. At least 3 years of direct experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC machines. High school diploma or GED. Experience in steel, metals, or heavy manufacturing. Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills. Ability to independently complete machine set-ups from print to first-piece approval.

Working knowledge of Mastercam or comparable CAD/CAM software. Ability to interpret and troubleshoot CNC programs, including G-code and M-code. Demonstrated manual machining experience with conventional lathes, mills, and grinders. Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal machining apprenticeship or technical school training. Mastercam training, certification, or advanced programming experience. Previous experience mentoring or training other machinists. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with material handling equipment available for heavier items.

Ability to perform precision set-up, measurement, and inspection tasks. Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with required personal protective equipment. Must be able to pass criminal background check, drug screen and physical.
