Job Summary

TCS is seeking an experienced Drafter to provide drafting and technical data support at NSWC Crane for Navy weapons systems and weapons platform integration efforts. This is a cradle-to-grave engineering environment: the Drafter will help take hardware from concept and prototype fabrication through first article verification, Technical Data Package (TDP) release, and life-cycle sustainment, using Creo, Solid.

Works, and Windchill. The successful candidate will work directly with the customer, engineers, technicians, and other CAD operators to capture design intent, revise existing documentation, and maintain configuration control, and must be able to learn established processes and procedures quickly and efficiently in a high-precision, mission-critical environment.

Essential Functions

Create and modify detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using Solid. Works, Creo, and other CAD software as required. Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs) in Windchill (PDM) in accordance with configuration management requirements. Produce detail, assembly, installation, and interface drawings for mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electrical hardware, including prototype and platform-integration components.

Support prototype fabrication and first article efforts by generating shop-ready drawings and incorporating as-built changes back into the TDP. Prepare and process drawing changes (ECPs, NORs, revisions) and support configuration management and data management deliverables across the product life cycle. Work closely with the customer, engineers, technicians, and other CAD operators to capture design intent, revise existing documentation, and attend design and status meetings.

Work independently and as part of a collective team effort to implement changes to designs and/or documentation. Delegate tasking and provide guidance to other team members while maintaining sound, timely decision-making under pressure. Maintain configuration management of tasking, files, and correspondence to complete assignments in a quick and orderly fashion.

Perform a variety of moderate to complex tasks using measurement tools including calipers, gauges, tape measures, rulers, and other mechanical devices to support design development and verification/validation of first article pieces. Apply drawing standards (ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000) and proper dimensioning and tolerancing practices to all deliverables.

Experience and Skills: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum eight (8) years of experience in drafting design, including electrical and mechanical drafting. Proficiency in Solid. Works and/or PTC Creo, used in conjunction with a PDM configuration system (Windchill preferred). Hands-on mechanical/electro-mechanical knowledge and aptitude, with an understanding of currently accepted manufacturing processes and ISO procedures.

Knowledge and understanding of ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), and MIL-STD-31000 drawing and TDP standards. Experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD) / 3D annotated models strongly preferred. Knowledge of basic and advanced CAD procedures and the ability to apply them on demand, including formatting, layout, and proper expression of dimensioning and tolerancing.

Understanding of military standards and specifications. Must currently hold and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; an Interim Secret clearance is required to start. Strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. Ability to quickly complete tasking independently and as a team member, working from detailed or general instructions.

Desired Qualifications: Be a self-starter who takes initiative to solve problems and improve drafting processes. Exhibit leadership traits and be comfortable guiding other CAD operators and providing updates to stakeholders. Work well in a fast-paced, team-driven environment with shifting priorities. Be comfortable adapting to a range of tasks, from hands-on measurement and first article verification to configuration management and documentation.

Prior experience supporting Navy or DoD weapons systems, platform integration, or test and evaluation technical data packages. Experience with sheet metal, machined parts, cable/harness, or weapons mounting and interface hardware. Interest in growing into a lead CAD/drafting role mentoring other team members. Travel: No travel anticipated.

Benefits

Comprehensive health benefits, including life, health, dental, vision, short-term disability (STD), and long-term disability (LTD) coverage for eligible employees and family members. 401(K) Plan with company match. 12 paid holidays. Paid time off (PTO). Competitive salaries. Application Process: We invite resumes from all interested parties.
