Job description

Finance Manager

Role & Responsibility

The Finance Manager is a core analytical engine of MVP's finance team and a visible business partner to Operations, RCM, and Sales & Marketing. MVP is a private equity-backed, multi-platform ophthalmology company operating roughly 75 clinic and ASC locations, and this role sits at the point where operational activity becomes financial outcome. The person in this seat builds the bottoms-up doctor forecast, produces the recurring reporting cadence that leadership runs the business on, and develops the cohort, four-wall, and pod-level analytics that inform where the company invests, consolidates, or exits.

This is a hands-on, build-oriented role rather than a maintenance role. Much of the analytical infrastructure described below does not yet exist in mature form, and the expectation is that the Finance Manager will design it, stand it up, and then run it. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, comfortable working directly in data rather than waiting for a clean extract, and able to move between a detailed model and a concise recommendation for a CFO or COO audience. MVP's North Star is to be the best place for doctors to work, and this role advances that aim by making provider economics transparent, accurate, and actionable.

Remote: IL, OH, MI, IN Only

Planning, Forecasting & Performance Management

Own the build and maintenance of the bottoms-up doctor-level forecast, including volume, provider schedule assumptions, revenue per encounter, and payor mix drivers.

Support the Director of Finance & Strategy in executing the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), owning assigned workstreams, template distribution, consolidation, and version control across platforms.

Produce the weekly, monthly, and quarterly business review packages (WBR/MBR/QBR), evolving them from backward-looking reporting into forecast reviews that connect operational KPIs to financial outcomes.

Deliver monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis on volume, revenue, and contribution, with written commentary that explains cause rather than restating the variance.

Support enterprise cash flow forecasting, including reconciliation of forecast to GL data and investigation of recurring variance drivers.

Doctor FP&A & Business Partnering

Serve as the day-to-day finance partner to Operations and Sales & Marketing, responding to provider and operator financial questions with accuracy and speed.

Triage and resolve physician compensation and production questions, escalating structural issues to the Director and CFO with a recommended resolution rather than an open question.

Partner with the VP, Chief of Staff to enrich the doctor CRM with qualitative commentary on provider plans and conversations, and translate that commentary into forecast assumptions.

Contribute to the payor reporting suite in partnership with RCM to support contract review and renegotiation.

Cohort, Four-Wall & Portfolio Analytics

Stand up referral cohort analysis and integrate it into the monthly reporting cadence, with the objective of improving cohort NPV retention.

Build patient cohort retention analysis from the ground up, establishing the baseline measurement the organization currently lacks.

Support the indirect costing process that underpins four-wall EBITDA evaluation, including allocation methodology, documentation, and sensitivity testing of allocation choices.

Contribute to refinement of the pod P&L and indirect revenue and cost attribution, and help translate the output into portfolio optimization recommendations.

Build ad hoc strategic analyses on request, including site-level profitability, de novo and acquisition modeling, and capital deployment scenarios.

Reporting, Systems & Recap Readiness

Maintain the addback tracking schedule with supporting documentation sufficient to withstand quality of earnings diligence.

Prepare recurring financial reporting delivered to the sponsor and lender group, working to a standard where the package requires review rather than rework.

Partner with the Controller and Accounting Manager to support a high-quality close and to test, validate, and adopt new finance systems (ERP, Workday) and the processes that surround them.

Support the analytics build-out of the enterprise data lake, including validation of migrated reporting logic and retirement of legacy reporting tools.

Document owned processes into the corporate knowledge library to increase transparency and reduce key-person risk.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field.

4-7 years of progressive experience in corporate FP&A, management consulting, private equity, investment banking, or transaction advisory. Candidates coming directly from consulting, banking, or a PE deal team are encouraged to apply; healthcare experience is valued but not required.

Demonstrated ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, ideally in a multi-site or multi-entity environment.

Advanced financial modeling capability, including the ability to build a driver-based operating model from a blank workbook rather than inheriting a template.

Strong data fluency. Must be able to translate a business question into a SQL query, validate the result independently against source systems, and work comfortably in a BI environment. This is a genuine requirement of the role, not a preference.

Experience with a cloud FP&A or enterprise planning platform (e.g., Workday Adaptive, Planful, Anaplan, Oracle Hyperion, SAP BPC). Experience supporting a planning system implementation is a plus.

Strategic instinct paired with analytical rigor. The role requires someone who can build the analysis and then say what it means and what should be done about it.

Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to present to executive audiences and to hold their own in a room with operators and physicians.

Comfort with ambiguity, a bias toward building rather than waiting, and unquestionable integrity.

Why This Role

This is a high-visibility seat with direct exposure to the CFO, COO, and the private equity sponsor, in an organization that is actively building its finance infrastructure rather than maintaining a finished one. The Finance Manager will own analytical workstreams that reach the board and will have meaningful influence over how MVP measures provider performance, allocates capital, and prepares for recapitalization. For an ambitious finance professional, the scope available here is broader than a comparable title at a larger company, and the path to greater responsibility is short.
