Principal Engineer - SAP ABAP

The SAP ABAP / ABAP on HANA Consultant is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting SAP applications across SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA landscapes. The role requires 4-8 years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development, ABAP on HANA, SAP S/4HANA extensibility, integrations, and technical troubleshooting.

The consultant will independently own development tasks, deliver high-quality technical solutions, support business transformation initiatives, and collaborate closely with functional and technical teams to ensure successful project delivery and achievement of team targets. Key Responsibility: Develop, enhance, and support SAP ABAP solutions across SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA environments.

Independently analyse requirements, prepare technical designs, develop solutions, perform testing, and support deployment activities. Own assigned development tasks end-to-end with minimal supervision and ensure timely delivery. Develop and support RICEF objects including Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflow-related developments.

Design and develop Classical Reports, Interactive Reports, ALV Reports, Adobe Forms, Smart Forms, SAP Scripts, and Adobe Forms. Develop and support integrations using BAPIs, RFCs, IDocs, Web Services, Proxies, and OData Services. Create and enhance CDS Views, AMDPs, and HANA-optimized programs using code pushdown techniques.

Implement User Exits, Customer Exits, BAd. Is, Enhancement Points, and Enhancement Framework solutions. Perform debugging, root cause analysis, performance tuning, and technical issue resolution.Support SAP Fiori, SAP Gateway, and S/4HANA extensibility developments where applicable. Collaborate with functional consultants and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver optimal technical solutions.

Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, quality assurance activities, and development best practices. Support SIT, UAT, defect resolution, production deployments, and hyper care activities. Prepare and maintain technical specifications, development documentation, test evidence, and knowledge repositories.

Proactively identify technical risks, dependencies, and process improvement opportunities. Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the team. Actively collaborate with colleagues and contribute towards achieving project milestones, delivery commitments, quality objectives, and team targets. Follow organizational development standards, security guidelines, and change management procedures.

Job Specific Skills: Strong expertise in SAP ABAP development and Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP). Extensive experience in Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflow-related developments. Strong hands-on experience with Smart Forms, SAP Scripts, Adobe Forms, ALV Reports, and Dialog Programming. Experience in BAPI, RFC, IDoc, Proxy, Web Services, and OData development.

Strong knowledge of SAP Enhancements including User Exits, Customer Exits, BAd. Is, and Enhancement Framework. Experience working in SAP S/4HANA environments and migration projects. Exposure to SAP Fiori/UI5, SAP Gateway, and RAP Framework is an advantage. Hands-on experience with ABAP on HANA development including: CDS Views AMDP SQL Performance Optimization Code Pushdown Techniques HANA Modelling Concepts Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver development objects with minimal supervision. Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated ability to support and collaborate with team members to achieve project and organizational targets.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, bachelor’s degree in IT (BSc IT) or a related discipline. Equivalent relevant SAP development experience may also be considered. 4-8 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development and support experience in enterprise SAP environments. Preferred Certification: SAP Certified Development Associate

• ABAP for SAP HANA ITIL Foundation - preferred.
