Job description
Position Summary
Hydraulics International, Inc. (HII) is seeking TIG & MIG Welders to join our manafacturing team. Welder II performs skilled GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG welding and fabrication on moderate to complex components and assemblies. This position works independently from engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and work instructions and is responsible for maintaining dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and production requirements with limited supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG welding on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other specified materials. Complete moderate to complex weldments with minimal supervision. Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, tolerances, and work instructions. Perform fit-up, alignment, tack welding, and final welding of fabricated assemblies.
Select appropriate welding techniques, machine settings, filler materials, welding wire, shielding gases, and welding sequence based on job requirements. Control heat input and welding sequence to minimize distortion and maintain dimensional requirements. Perform welding in various positions as required. Use fixtures and fabrication tools to maintain proper fit-up and alignment.
Inspect completed work for weld quality, penetration, appearance, dimensions, and compliance with drawings and specifications. Use precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, gauges, squares, and other inspection tools. Identify weld defects and perform approved repairs or rework. Troubleshoot routine welding, equipment, fit-up, and fabrication issues.
Maintain required production, inspection, and quality documentation. Assist less-experienced welders with equipment setup, welding techniques, and work instructions. Maintain welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and work areas in safe operating condition. Follow all applicable safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Typically 3–5 years of welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or similar environment. Demonstrated proficiency in TIG and MIG welding. Experience welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminum preferred. Strong ability to read blueprints and interpret weld symbols. Knowledge of weld preparation, joint design, filler materials, welding wire, shielding gases, and heat control.
Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment. Ability to independently complete assigned welding work with limited supervision. Ability to identify and correct routine welding and fabrication problems. Must be able to pass applicable company welding qualification tests. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG welding processes.
Working knowledge of welding parameters and equipment setup. Ability to control distortion, heat input, and weld sequencing. Strong attention to dimensional accuracy and workmanship. Ability to recognize weld defects and determine appropriate corrective action. Ability to communicate effectively with Manufacturing, Quality, and supervision.
Ability to assist and support less-experienced welders. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods. Ability to use hands and arms continuously while operating welding and fabrication equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment as required by the position.
Ability to work around welding fumes, heat, sparks, noise, and moving equipment while wearing required PPE. Ability to safely perform welding work in various positions as required.
