Position Summary

San Ysidro Health (SYH) Endocrinologist will treat outpatient adults within a large Federally Qualified Health Center serving patients across San Diego County. SYH Specialists support SYH Primary Care Providers and patients by providing Specialty access within the SYH clinic system. Scope includes general outpatient Adult Endocrinology (Type I and Type II Diabetes, Thyroid, adrenal and pituitary diseases, osteoporosis, PCOS and other outpatient Endocrinologic conditions).

Collaborate with other Specialists and Primary Care Providers in a team-based care model with excellent support staff, providing patient-centered care to a diverse patient population. Opportunity for part-time or full time depending on the interests of the candidate. Location primarily San Ysidro and Chula Vista, with potential for expansion to other areas served by San Ysidro Health Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Provides consultative services for complex diagnostic or therapeutic problems as requested by other staff physicians.
  • Evaluates and manages acute medical problems and chronic diseases.
  • Screens and monitors chronic conditions.
  • Provides detailed documentation in a timely manner for every patient encounter
  • Coordinates the preparation of reports and written documentation including medical records, as required by SYH and by state and federal agencies.
  • Maintains clear communication with referring PCPs
  • Provides clinical supervision for Nurses and assistants in examining room.
  • May serve as preceptor for Advanced Practice Providers (Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner).
  • Occasional supervision of medical trainees (medical students and residents)
  • Active participation in interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings and workshops. Remains current in literature pertaining to Specialty.
  • Attends department meetings and meetings with clinical supervisor as required.
  • Remain up to date with SYH required employee trainings.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Experience Required: Completion of clinical training. Completion of clinical training in Endocrinology. Preferred : 2 years post completion of clinical training. Experience working with medically underserved populations and demonstrated understanding of the social circumstances and associated medical conditions in communities served by SYH. Skills Required to Perform the Job: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex medical information to patients and staff. Preferred : Medical Spanish or experience working with translation services.

Education

Graduate from accredited school of Medicine. Certifications Required: Current CA MD/DO and DEA license. CPR certification. Board certified in Internal Medicine. Board certified in Endocrinology, or board-eligible in Endocrinology with plans to become board certified within two years. Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job: Must obtain staff privileges at local hospitals and nursing homes.
