Multilingual Teacher Coach Lewiston Public Schools Job Title Multilingual Teacher Coach Department Multilingual Learner (ML) Programs Reports To Director of Multilingual Programs / Building Principal Approved By Jake Langlais, Superintendent Effective Date 10/2/2026 Status Full-time, salaried Salary Range $45,518.26 � $85,857.

57 Position Summary The Multilingual Teacher Coach works under the direction of school administrators to strengthen teaching practice and make sure multilingual learners receive academic experiences that meet their needs. The coach models sound teaching and learning strategies for language development, and has a thorough command of curriculum models and current research on effective instruction for multilingual learners.

The coach also develops, gathers, and shares resources that help students reach their language and academic goals, and oversees English learner identification, placement, and data. Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule.

This is an essential function of the position, not a preference. New students arrive throughout the year and need timely screening and placement, and teachers depend on consistent coaching cycles. Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, along with scheduled professional development and state testing windows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Coaching and instructional support Respond to the needs of multilingual learners and their teachers. Provide classroom support and coaching to teachers as they use instructional strategies for multilingual learners that are aligned with district standards, frameworks, and assessments. Teach demonstration lessons for classroom teachers.

Help teachers choose professional learning that improves their practice with multilingual learners. Language and literacy across content areas Provide resources to all teachers so language and literacy development are emphasized across the curriculum. Help develop methods to measure how effectively instruction is raising multilingual learners' language and literacy skills.

Meet with content-area faculty to discuss curriculum changes, target data, and [school improvement initiatives]. Work with [district and regional partners] to align student performance measures with district guidelines, standards, and frameworks. English learner identification, placement, and data Conduct English language proficiency screening for new students (such as the WIDA Screener) and make placement recommendations.

Manage all data for English learners receiving direct and mainstream services. Manage implementation and data analysis for all required and mandated testing, including annual English language proficiency testing. Work with staff to develop, support, and monitor graduation plans for English learners. Work with staff to match extended-day and extended-year programming to student needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises students and directs the work of educational technicians as assigned. Provides coaching and support to teachers [but does not formally evaluate them].

Qualifications

Education, certification, and experience Bachelor's degree Exemplary teaching experience, preferably with multilingual learners Valid Maine teaching certificate and endorsements [English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement] Training in English language proficiency screening and assessment, or willingness to complete it Completed criminal history record check (fingerprinting), as required by Maine law Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Language skills Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations, including federal and state requirements for English learners.

Write reports, correspondence, and procedures. Present information effectively and respond to questions from individuals and groups. Fluency in a language spoken by district families [preferred]. Mathematical and data skills Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Analyze assessment and language proficiency data, including basic statistics, to guide instruction and placement. Reasoning ability Solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Interpret instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other skills and abilities Apply current research and theory on second language acquisition to the instructional program.

Thorough command of a specific content area, and broad knowledge of other curriculum areas. Attentive listening and communication skills, and the ability to guide a learning community through change. Culturally responsive practice and the ability to build effective relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.

Compensation

and Benefits The salary range for this position is $45,518.26 to $85,857.57 annually (SY 26/27), with placement on the teacher salary schedule based on education and experience.
