Director of Human Resources

Albuquerque, NMExecutivePosted Oct 30, 2026

Job description

At Signature Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical, our mission is simple: raise the standard for home service in New Mexico. We serve families across the Albuquerque area, and we are proud of the culture we call Heart + Smart, built on doing what we say and standing behind our work. Now we are focused on growth, with a plan to become a $40 to $60 million company, and we know that depends on strong leadership on the people side of the business.

That is why we are creating our first Director of Human Resources. This is not a role inheriting a finished playbook. It is a seat at the leadership table, a chance to build the HR strategy, team, and culture that will carry Signature through its next chapter of growth, and to see your fingerprints on the company for years to come.

If you are a seasoned HR leader who loves building, coaching, and partnering with a leadership team that genuinely cares about their people, we would love to meet you. The Director of Human Resources is Signature's senior people leader and a strategic partner to the leadership team. You will set the HR vision and build the infrastructure a growing multi trade company needs: workforce planning, talent acquisition, leadership development, compensation and incentive design, employee relations, compliance, safety and workers' compensation, benefits, and HR technology.

You will lead and develop the HR team, including the HR Manager, and you will be the person leaders turn to when the stakes are high and the right answer matters. This position reports directly to the General Manager and is based onsite in Albuquerque, NM.

What We Offer

Competitive executive level salary plus an annual performance bonus tied to company and people goals. Full benefits including health, dental, and vision. Paid time off and paid holidays. 401(k) with company match. A true leadership seat, with direct access to the General Manager and leadership team and real influence on how Signature grows.

The chance to build, not just maintain: shape the HR strategy, team, and systems for a company scaling toward $40 to $60 million. A local, values driven culture built on Heart + Smart, accountability, and doing right by our customers and our people.

Responsibilities

Partners with the General Manager and leadership team to build and execute a people strategy that supports Signature's growth plan, translating business goals into workforce plans, organizational design, and hiring priorities. Owns and leads the HR function with full accountability for its results, and leads, coaches, and develops the HR team, including the HR Manager.

Oversee the talent acquisition engine for technicians, sales, call center, and leadership roles, partnering with hiring managers on workforce plans, employer branding, sourcing, and selection so the company can staff ahead of growth. Designs and maintains compensation structures, pay bands, and incentive programs for field, sales, and office teams, ensuring they are competitive, fair, and aligned with business results.

Creates leadership and career development programs that grow managers from within and build clear career paths for technicians and staff. Serves as the trusted advisor to leaders on employee relations, conducting or overseeing investigations, guiding performance management and corrective action, and resolving complex matters fairly and confidentially.

Drives retention and engagement through onboarding, recognition, feedback, and culture programs that bring Heart + Smart to life for every employee. Oversees safety culture and the workers' compensation program, partnering with carriers and field leadership on claims, return to work plans, and injury prevention. Leads benefits strategy and administration, evaluating plans annually for cost, competitiveness, and employee value.

Ensures compliance with federal and New Mexico employment law, including wage and hour, leave, and posting requirements, and keeps policies and the employee handbook current. Owns HR technology, data, and reporting, using metrics such as turnover, time to fill, and engagement to guide decisions and report results to the leadership team.

Builds the HR policies, processes, and systems needed to support a significantly larger workforce as Signature grows.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. A master's degree or SHRM SCP / SPHR certification is required. Ten (10)+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least five (5) years in an HR leadership role managing HR staff. Proven experience as the senior HR leader in a growing company, ideally one that scaled meaningfully in headcount or revenue during your tenure.

Experience in the home services industry is strongly preferred. Track record of building HR infrastructure from the ground up: policies, compensation structures, performance and development programs, and HR systems. Strong talent acquisition leadership, including high volume hiring of skilled trades or hourly field roles.

Experience designing compensation and incentive plans, including commission or performance based pay. Deep experience with employee relations, investigations, and coaching leaders through difficult people decisions. Experience managing workers' compensation, safety programs, and benefits strategy. Working knowledge of federal and New Mexico employment law, or the ability to get up to speed quickly.

Hands on experience with an HRIS such as ADP, Paylocity, or a similar platform, and comfort using HR data to drive decisions. HR leadership experience in the trades, home services, construction, or another field service industry is highly desirable. Executive presence, sound judgment, and proven discretion with confidential information.

A builder's mindset, with the ability to roll up your sleeves while also thinking several years ahead. Ability to successfully pass a background check. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Ready to Build What Comes Next? Great companies are built by great people, and the next chapter of Signature will be built by the leader in this seat.

If you want your work to matter, to be felt by every technician, every customer, and every family we serve across New Mexico, apply today. We would love to hear your story.
