This is not an entry-level mechanical position. We are looking for someone who has worked on heavy equipment, diesel equipment, construction machinery, industrial equipment, or similar machinery and is comfortable diagnosing problems and completing repairs with limited supervision. The right person is dependable, takes ownership of their work, communicates well, keeps an organized work area, and understands that equipment needs to be repaired correctly and ready when promised.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, diesel, and electrical systems. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs. Identify the root cause of equipment failures rather than simply replacing parts. Read and use hydraulic and electrical schematics, service information, and diagnostic equipment.
Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as required. Prepare equipment for customer jobs and confirm that repairs have been completed properly before equipment is released. Maintain accurate service, inspection, parts, and repair records. Communicate repair status, parts requirements, and equipment issues clearly to management and other team members.
Maintain an organized, professional, and safe work area. Follow company safety procedures and applicable industry requirements. Travel to customer or job sites when necessary and assist with field troubleshooting and repairs.
Qualifications
Requirements
3+ years of hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel equipment, construction equipment, industrial machinery, or comparable equipment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability. Working knowledge of hydraulic systems. Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
Ability to work independently and take a repair from diagnosis through completion. Proven reliability, attendance, and ability to manage work without constant supervision. Ability to prioritize multiple repairs and communicate when deadlines or equipment needs change. Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in a shop and outdoor environment.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites when required. Strongly Preferred: Diesel engine experience. Electrical troubleshooting experience. Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics. Welding/fabrication experience. Previous field-service experience. Experience working on cranes, pile-driving equipment, foundation equipment, drilling equipment, or other large construction machinery.
You do not need previous piledriving-equipment experience. APE will train an experienced technician on our specialized equipment and systems. What Success Looks Like Here We need technicians we can depend on. Successful people in this role: Show up consistently and are ready to work. Take responsibility for the quality of their repairs.
Troubleshoot problems instead of waiting to be told every next step. Ask questions when necessary but can work independently. Treat company and customer equipment as if it were their own. Keep management informed rather than allowing problems or delays to become surprises. Work safely and professionally with coworkers and customers.
Why APE APE designs, manufactures, rents, sells, and services specialized equipment used on major construction and foundation projects. Our technicians work on equipment that is considerably more specialized than what you’ll find in a typical repair shop. We’ll teach you APE’s equipment.
