Job description

The Department of English at The Chinese University of Hong Kong invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant to join a teaching and research project on enhancing university students’ academic reading strategies through artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and eye-tracking technologies. The project aims to develop and evaluate innovative technology-enhanced approaches to academic reading and language learning across different disciplines.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in English, Applied Linguistics, Education, Psychology, or a related discipline; (ii) an excellent command of written and spoken English and Cantonese; and (iii) strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research, statistical analysis (e.

g., Excel), eye-tracking research, educational technology, and the use of advanced AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) will be an advantage. Applicants should also be comfortable working with university students and collaborating with academic staff from different disciplines. The appointee will be responsible for (a) supporting the Principal Investigator and project team in the development and implementation of research on academic reading strategies and technology-enhanced language learning; (b) assisting with the development, pilot testing, and refinement of AI-supported academic reading materials, reading tasks, and technology-enhanced learning activities; (c) recruiting and coordinating student participants from different academic disciplines; (d) conducting data collection, including eye-tracking experiments, reading comprehension assessments, surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and student reflections; (e) managing, processing, and analysing quantitative and qualitative data, including eye-tracking data; (f) assisting with the preparation of research reports, manuscripts, conference presentations, teaching and learning materials, and other project outputs; (g) supporting project administration, workshops, meetings, documentation, and knowledge dissemination activities; and (h) performing other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
