Job description

Engineering Manager Role Overview The Engineering Manager leads and develops the engineering team responsible for the design, validation, and deployment of advanced HVAC and cooling solutions across mission-critical markets. This role combines technical leadership with people management, owning both the quality of engineering output and the growth, performance, and effectiveness of the engineers on the team — including Senior Application and HVAC Engineers.

You will set technical direction, ensure design integrity and code compliance, and align engineering execution with business objectives. Partnering closely with Sales, Business Development, Product, Operations, and Customers, you will translate strategic priorities into deliverable engineering work, remove obstacles for your team, and serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical challenges.

As a leader, you will shape engineering standards, processes, and best practices while building a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, including Senior Application and HVAC Engineers, setting clear goals, expectations, and performance standards. Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career development planning to grow technical capability and engagement across the team.

Manage workload allocation, prioritization, and capacity planning to balance project demands with quality and timelines. Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent; build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Resolve conflicts, support team wellbeing, and foster an inclusive, high-trust working environment.

Technical Leadership & Engineering Oversight Provide senior technical direction across HVAC system design, controls integration, redundancy strategy, and operational resilience. Review and approve system designs, submittals, calculations, and shop drawings to ensure technical accuracy, code compliance, and alignment with customer requirements.

Serve as the senior escalation point for complex technical challenges, non-standard applications, and critical performance issues. Drive engineering standards, design guidelines, tools, and workflows that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency. Champion product evolution by feeding field and design insights back into the product development process.

Cross-Functional & Business Alignment Partner with Sales and Business Development to ensure engineering support translates customer requirements into technically sound, competitive solutions. Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Supply Chain to align engineering execution with manufacturing, procurement, and delivery realities.

Support proposal development, technical reviews, and key customer engagements where senior engineering leadership adds value. Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting, and resource forecasting in support of company growth objectives. Project & Process Management Oversee the engineering pipeline to ensure deliverables meet quality, schedule, and compliance requirements.

Establish and refine engineering processes, documentation standards, and review gates. Track key metrics and report on team performance, project status, and technical risks to leadership. Support selective high-impact site surveys, startup, and commissioning activities where senior oversight is required.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. 8+ years of progressive engineering experience with HVAC systems, preferably in commercial, industrial, data center, or mission-critical environments. 3+ years of experience leading or managing engineers, or demonstrated technical leadership of teams and projects.

Strong understanding of HVAC system design, controls, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting. Proven ability to develop talent, manage performance, and build high-performing teams. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership and customers.

Strong analytical, organizational, planning, and documentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional credential. Experience supporting technical sales, pre-sales engineering, or customer-facing solution design.

Familiarity with relevant electrical and mechanical codes and standards. Experience with data centers, telecom, semiconductor, energy storage, or other critical infrastructure. Confident presenter with the ability to lead technical discussions and influence decisions at all levels. Experience leading teams in cross-functional, fast-paced, global environments.
