Speech/Language Substitute Teacher

DESCRIPTION: The Villages Charter School is accepting applications for Speech Language Pathologist Substitute Teachers.

In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Speech Language Pathologist Substitute provides therapy services to students to encourage further development in his/her communication in the educational setting. The Speech Language Pathologist Substitute teacher position is responsible for always ensuring student safety by supervising students with strong classroom management.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To enable each child to pursue his/her Speech Language therapy as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the Speech Language Pathologist in accordance with the mission and goals of The Villages Charter School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned: Follows the Speech Language Pathologist's lesson plans Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work-related tasks. Helps shape and develop a classroom culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student.

Models correct use of English oral and written language Conducts assigned therapies at the times scheduled. Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files. Enforces school policies concerning student conduct and discipline Interacts in a professional manner with students, staff, and administration Maintains student confidentiality Works cooperatively with all school personnel Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold or be eligible for certification by the State of Florida in Speech-Language Impaired or a “Statement of Eligibility” from the Florida Department of Education. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time- as needed.
