Job description
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems in a high-speed food production environment. This role supports equipment reliability, preventive maintenance programs, continuous improvement initiatives, and production operations while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and food safety standards.
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems within a high-speed food production environment. This position supports equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, performs preventive maintenance activities, and partners with operations teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities through equipment inspections and scheduled maintenance programs.
- Diagnose equipment issues and perform corrective repairs to restore equipment performance.
- Apply lubrication techniques and support equipment reliability initiatives.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and production-related maintenance issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, power distribution, and basic control system components.
- Set up and operate machine tools and maintenance equipment.
- Fit and align bearings, shafts, spindles, drive components, and related equipment.
- Perform machine setup, adjustments, rebuilds, and equipment overhauls on production lines.
- Identify and implement equipment improvement opportunities that enhance reliability, performance, and efficiency.
- Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings and communicate maintenance priorities and equipment concerns.
- Assist with facility and plant maintenance activities.
- Support plumbing, pipefitting, welding, carpentry, facility maintenance, utilities, boiler systems, ammonia systems, water recovery systems, and fire protection systems as needed.
- Partner effectively with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve issues and support operational objectives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical training, vocational education, apprenticeship training, or related industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Minimum of five years of industrial maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, measurements, and precision measuring tools.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial equipment systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing technical training and professional development.
- Ability to work overtime and temporary alternative shifts as business needs require. Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, stoop, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to varying temperatures, dust, odors, gases, fumes, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined or difficult-to-access areas when required.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Compensation
& Benefits: Hourly pay range: $33.47 - $37.74 per hour. This position is eligible for plant performance bonus opportunities based on quarterly results.
