Job description

Civil Service Title- Oiler ( This is a list call request) * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST. The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users.

Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. Lubricate and clean pumps, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operation equipment; read meters, gauges; assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of the equipment; keep logs; operate lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintain lubricant inventory and perform related work.

May be required to work a night shift. Job requires physical activities: climb stairs, ladders and over equipment; walk over wet and slippery concrete surfaces, work under piping, lift objects up to 60 pounds, etc.

Experience working on Bridge structures.   1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment; or
  2. One and one-half years of experience as described in “1" above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program; or
  3. One year of experience as described in “1" above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.
