Med Emergency Department. While working in the Emergency Department, the communication specialist works under the guidance and supervision of the Emergency Department nurse(s) and the charge#nurse(s) to provide treatment as ordered by the physician(s)/provider(s) to promote quality and safe care of the patients within the department.

Receive incoming reports (EMS, physician offices, nursing homes, etc#). If orders are to be given, the call will be transferred to a nurse or a physician. Maintains a database of all EMS alerts requested by EMS prior to arrival. Assists with patient callbacks as instructed by the charge nurse and/or physician. Assists nursing staff by obtaining vital signs of patients as instructed by the charge nurse of the Emergency Department.

Qualifications: H.S. Diploma or GED equivalency required. EMT Certificate, graduate of an approved paramedic program, registered nurse, or completion of an approved nursing assistant training course. Experience: Hospital-based nursing assistant, phlebotomist, paramedic, surgical technician, patient care technician, registered nurse, or other approved training/education.
