Pre-sales Electrical Engineer - Power
Job description
Pre-sales Electrical Engineer
- Power Who are we?: At Vertiv, we’re on a mission to empower the people that will power the future. From a simple swipe to life-changing medicines, from push notifications to generative AI. We design, manufacture, and service the products and solutions that keep the world connected. With $6.9 billion in sales, a strong customer base and global reach spanning nearly 70 countries, we are uniquely positioned to deliver greater value to our customers and create new opportunities for our people. Role purpose: The Pre-Sales Electrical Engineer provides the electrical design capability within pre-sales engineering: the calculations, schematics and compliance work that sit behind an integrated power solution during the proposal phase. Role scope: Electrical design within the pre-sales engineering team, supporting integrated solutions and engineered proposals. Works alongside the Pre-Sales Engineer, who owns the system-level design, and the Senior CAD Engineer, who produces layouts and drawings. Key accountabilities: Produce electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and supporting documentation for proposals. Perform network calculations, sizing, protection coordination, arc-flash assessment and withstand rating verification across LV and MV distribution. Interpret and apply the relevant codes and standards for the target market. Support the definition of integrated solutions alongside mechanical, control and EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) colleagues. Check designs for compliance with customer specifications, and document deviations clearly. Coordinate with factory engineering and suppliers on component selection and feasibility. Maintain the accuracy and traceability of design documentation through the proposal phase. Contribute standard schematics and reusable blocks to the engineering library. Use network-calculation software, design automation and AI-enabled tools to reduce repetitive work and cycle time, within approved quality checks. Working model and level expectations: Customer engagement: Mainly internal; occasional technical clarification with customers and consultants. Travel expectation: Low. Typical work: Schematics, calculations, sizing, compliance checks, design documentation. Decision profile: Works within established design rules; escalates non-standard requirements. Leadership expectation: Develops own capability; supports colleagues with electrical expertise. Role differentiators: Depth in electrical design rather than breadth across the portfolio. Works behind the proposal rather than in front of the customer. Feeds the integrated solution designed by the Pre-Sales Engineer.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in power distribution or mission-critical infrastructure. Strong command of network calculations, protection and sizing methods. Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, CE/UKCA and EMEA national codes; CAD proficiency.
Hands-on proficiency with network-calculation and protection software (e.g. ETAP, Easy. Power, DIgSILENT Power. Factory). Strong written and verbal English. Preferred: knowledge of MV switchgear and LV distribution products; exposure to BESS or grid-connection studies. Core competencies: Electrical design depth Analytical rigour Standards and compliance Documentation quality Attention to detail Collaboration across disciplines Problem solving Reliability and follow-through Indicative success measures: On-time delivery of electrical inputs (SLDs, calculations, compliance statements) against proposal due dates.
First-time-right rate: calculations and SLDs passing internal design review without rework. No engineering change orders (ECOs) attributable to errors in pre-sales electrical design. Standard schematics and reusable blocks contributed to the engineering library. Feedback from Pre-Sales Engineers and Technical Sales on clarity, responsiveness and technical quality.
