Job description

JOB PURPOSE The primary focus of this position is to assist the Director of EHS in assessing best practices, health and safety risk identification and evaluation, and ensuring compliance with all state, local, and federal laws and regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes, maintains, and improves work practices. Mentor team members in environmental compliance. Reads and interprets results of sampling and monitoring equipment. Prepare environmental compliance plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater. Ensure adherence to all relevant legal rules and regulations.

Maintain accurate records of waste removal. Implement effective and purposeful training methods. Conduct hazard assessments and audits at plant locations. Review and implement new procedures as needed. Serve as a subject matter expert in regard to environmental compliance. Write machine specific Lock Out Tag Out programs.

Participates in environmental site assessment activities. Manages delivery of safety programs. Evaluate the company’s operations through technical audits and site assessments. Write, implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures. Oversee Hazardous Waste removal and ensure regulatory agency compliance. labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.

Support and facilitate site EHS committees to ensure implementation of EHS programs. Research and evaluate waste disposal/recycling options. Participate in EHS audits at selected plant locations. All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Engineer with PE preferred. Professional or technical degree in engineering, environmental safety, or related field. Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies. A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in Industrial Environmental field. A minimum of 2 years safety experience. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience with air permitting and wastewater treatment facilities. Strong computer skills with history of procedure writing. Industrial Health and Safety Certification preferred. Strong writing and record keeping ability for reports and training manuals. Ability to cover department needs will require occasional night and weekend work.

Team oriented approach to problem solving. Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Valid drivers license and ability to travel. WORKING CONDITIONS The working environment is both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to a typical office environment, including heavy PC and phone usage; as well as, working in warehouse spaces with heavy foot and forklift traffic.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position involves a variety of physical activities including, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The ability to stand for extended periods of time is also required. Some kneeling, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting required. Lifting of 70lbs or less regularly. Cleaning material chemicals used regularly.

Ability to wear and demonstrate the use of required PPE, respirators, gloves, and full body Tyvek suits. Must have limited to no facial hair for proper respirator fitment.
