- Sioux Falls, SD, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Position: Service Technician Location: Sioux Falls, SD — preferred Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday with no weekend hours. Flexible 8–10 hour days, with shifts scheduled between 7 AM and 6 PM.
About the Role
At Montgomery’s, our Service Technicians are more than people who fix furniture. They are problem solvers, troubleshooters, craftsmen, and customer advocates who play a critical role in making sure our customers have a great experience long after the sale. We provide world-class service, and we’re looking for a Service Technician who takes the same level of pride in delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Our Service Technicians work on a wide variety of products and service situations, including furniture, flooring, window treatments, and other products sold by Montgomery’s. Every day is different, and success in this role requires someone who can diagnose problems, determine the best solution, manage multiple jobs at different stages, and keep work moving forward.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys figuring things out, working independently, and taking ownership of getting the job done right.
What You'll Do
Diagnose and repair a wide variety of furniture and product issues. Perform in-home, in-store, and in-shop service work with a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Troubleshoot problems and determine the appropriate repair or solution. Complete repairs involving upholstery, frames, mechanisms, hardware, finishes, and other furniture components.
Inspect products and document findings with detailed notes, photos, and videos. Determine when an issue can be repaired, requires replacement parts, needs vendor involvement, or should be escalated. Remove and install a wide variety of soft and hard window treatments, including blinds, shades, shutters, draperies, and related hardware.
Safely measure, handle, transport, and install window treatments while protecting the customer’s home and finished surfaces. Troubleshoot installation issues and ensure each treatment is properly fitted, functioning, and finished to a high standard. Communicate professionally with customers while working in their homes.
Explain repairs, installation, care instructions, and recommendations to customers in a clear and helpful manner. Work closely with the Service team, vendors, salespeople, delivery teams, and other departments to resolve customer issues. Maintain accurate service documentation so that the entire team understands what has been done and what still needs to happen.
Manage parts, tools, materials, and equipment needed to complete service work. Drive company vehicles to customer locations and other service-related destinations. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area and vehicle. Follow company safety procedures and product-care guidelines. Represent Montgomery’s professionally with every customer interaction.
This Job Requires More Than Repair Skills A successful Service Technician needs to be able to manage an entire day of work—not just one repair at a time. You may have several repairs in progress at once, and the ability to plan your day strategically is critical. For example, if one repair requires adhesive or finish to dry, you should be able to recognize that downtime as an opportunity to begin another repair, complete an inspection, work on a different service item, or prepare the next job.
You will then return to the original repair when it is ready for the next step. We are looking for someone who can constantly ask: “What can I accomplish next?” Strong time management, organization, and multitasking skills are essential. The goal is to keep multiple jobs moving forward throughout the day rather than waiting on one task to be completely finished before starting another.
What We're Looking For
Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar problems. Excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship. Strong time-management and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and effectively structure your day around multiple jobs and priorities. Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with a team.
Comfortable working in customers' homes and maintaining a professional demeanor. Strong problem-solving skills and a “figure it out” attitude. Ability to adapt when the day's schedule or priorities change. Reliable, dependable, and accountable. Comfortable using technology to document work, communicate, and access service information.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to safely lift, move, and maneuver furniture and other products. You might be a great fit if you are someone who: Enjoys figuring out how things work and how to fix them. Takes pride in doing things correctly rather than simply getting them done.
Can look at a problem and develop a plan instead of waiting to be told exactly what to do. Can juggle multiple priorities without losing track of the details. Is comfortable working independently and managing your own time. Understands that great service is about both the quality of the repair and the experience of the customer.
Doesn't get frustrated when a repair doesn't go exactly as planned—you troubleshoot, adjust, and keep going. Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to completion. Understands that sometimes the answer isn't immediately obvious, but you're willing to figure it out. Why Montgomery's? Our Service team is made up of rescuers and problem solvers.
We step in when something hasn't gone as planned and work to make it right for the customer. If you like working with your hands, solving problems, staying busy, and seeing the tangible results of your work every day, this could be a great opportunity to join our team. What's in it for you? The perks you deserve, and then some!
