Beals Assistant (Federally Eligible Only)

Join the Beals Studios team! As a Workstudy for Beals Studios, you will develop and apply your knowledge of the methodologies and mindsets that define our space. This role is a unique combination of mentorship, technical learning, creative collaboration, and daily operations. The skills and experiences you gain in this position are intended to complement your studio practice and contribute to your personal toolkit you can carry beyond your time here.

In this position, you will develop both your skill in creative technologies and in mentorship by supporting others in their own learning. We expect commitment, curiosity, and collaboration. About the Assistant Position: The Assistant supports the daily function of Beals Studios by applying their developed knowledge of the studio’s equipment and processes to mentor others and facilitate equipment use.

This position requires a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and a continued interest in refining both technical abilities and an understanding of Beals Studios' core methodologies. Assistants are expected to maintain a working knowledge of the primary tools and technologies in Beals Studios, while actively expanding their familiarity with all equipment and workflows.

In addition to supporting students and helping manage studio activity, the Assistant also contributes to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.

Key Responsibilities

Develop a basic knowledge of the programs and equipment used in Beals Studios, including but not limited to: 3D Printing: Ultimaker S3 & S5 (FDM), Formlabs Fuse 1+ (SLS), Formlabs Form 3+ (SLA) Laser Systems: Epilog Fusion Pro and Epilog Fusion Edge CNC Milling: Shopbot Other Tools: Wazer Waterjet Cutter, Formech Vacuum Former, traditional hand tools Software: Rhino3D, Adobe Illustrator, Ultimaker Cura, and more Apply developed and comprehensive knowledge of equipment and processes used in Beals Studios to: Aid in the instruction of the general student body + faculty and staff Facilitate the use of equipment and policies in Beals Studios Assist professional staff with Beals events, workshops, classes, etc.

Streamline workflow and organization in Beals Studios. Uphold safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized environment. Support interdisciplinary collaboration and creative development by: Encouraging cross-departmental collaboration among students, faculty, and staff Facilitating group work and shared use of studio resources Assisting in project ideation, prototyping, and iteration Fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for experimentation and innovation Help maintain the cleanliness, organization, and daily function of Beals Studios through the following tasks: General Maintenance Workflow Organization Opening & Closing Procedures Qualifications/Skills Needed: This is a federally-eligible position only.

The desire to further develop these knowledge sets.

Strong, self-driven work ethic with the ability to identify and solve problems. Able to clearly communicate and instruct individuals concerning computerized processes. Punctual and dependable. We currently have a heightened need for coverage on Tuesdays from 8:30am to 12:00pm, and Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Our ideal candidate is able to cover to work during at least one of these times. 3-6 hours
