Full-time/Part-time Research Assistant / Junior Research Assistant
Job description
The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator (PI), Prof. Stuart Mc. Manus, with the project “Journey to the West: The Life and Times of Shen Fuzong”. Applicants should have (i) a good Master's degree in History, or a related discipline; (ii) proficiency in both written and spoken English, and the ability to work with sources in classical Chinese; (iii) strong organisational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; (iv) a strong sense of responsibility, integrity and self-motivation; and (v) the ability to work independently and attentively.
Candidates with less relevant working experience will be considered for appointment as Junior Research Assistant. The appointee will be responsible for (a) assisting the PI in handling complex classical Chinese texts related to Shen’s early life in Nanjing; (b) collecting, managing and analysing notes and archival reproductions; (c) conducting preliminary surveys of the existing secondary literature, primarily in Chinese and English; and (d) performing other research-related and administrative duties as assigned.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
