To view pay scale or benefits please see link below https://www.charleston.k12.il.us/page/employment Duties and Responsibilities: Check that school doors/access points are secure and turn on lights at the beginning of each day and turn off lights at the end of each day. Clean classrooms � pick up trash, sweep floors by lifting from floor to waist level, dust furniture, clean chalkboards/marker boards, empty trash by lifting from floor to waist level and from floor to shoulder level.

Clean restrooms � gather and carry cleaning supplies, scrub fixtures, and mop floor by pushing/pulling. Set up/clean up school functions � set up/take down chairs by lifting from floor to shoulder level and pushing/pulling, open/close bleachers, pick up trash, empty garbage by lifting from floor to waist level and pushing/pulling, sweep/mop floors.

Strip and wax gym floor/halls � prepare solution by lifting from waist to crown level and from floor to waist level, scrape floor, mop floor by pushing bucket on slick surfaces, operate scrubber by gripping and pushing/pulling on slick surfaces, run vacuum. Keep sidewalks, stairs/ADA accessible ramps, and driveways clear � gather tools, shovel/sweep walks by pushing/pulling on slick uneven surfaces and lifting from floor to waist level.

Wash windows � prepare supplies by lifting from waist to crown level, lifting from floor to waist level, and carrying; clean glass. Inventory supplies - stock shelves, order supplies Perform general building cleaning - clean smoke detectors, clean ceiling fixtures, repair roof units Test electric installations. Dust mopping the gym floor, stage, and bleachers.

Dust mopping and wet mopping classroom floors/hallways and vacuuming rugs and carpeted floors. Move furniture including chairs, tables, and desks. Changes light bulbs and performs light electrical work, including ballasts and switches. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.

Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity. Helps to remove snow where appropriate. Checks daily to ensure that all panic bolts on doors are working properly. Surveys classrooms daily and dusts appropriate furniture, files, bookcases, and window sills.

Cleans corridors daily and helps to keep grounds free of rubbish. Raise and lower United States Flag daily. Reports any major repairs needed to your building principal (first), maintenance supervisor, or the administrative assistant.If assigned, assumes responsibility for cleaning and mopping of the cafeteria floor and kitchen floor.

At least once a year, cafeteria chairs, tables, and benches will be given a thorough cleaning. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. Performs emergency repairs and/or cleaning services as needed.

Keeps storage rooms neat and orderly. Dispose of all cardboard. Assist in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of custodial staff. Plan and oversee all maintenance and repair work while maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. Monitor time records of all custodial employees of the district and signs off on them.

Keep informed of the latest trends, developments, and products in the areas of maintenance and repair. Perform weekend and holiday building checks for security. Call subs for absent employees. Replace filters in classroom, restrooms, workrooms, etc. Performs other duties as may be assigned by administration.
