Trainee, Platform Architecture

Smart Data Solutions, a leading provider of data management, claim routing and workflow solutions to health plans and TPAs, is looking for Trainee, Platform Architecture to join our team! What will you be doing? Assist with monitoring SDS AWS data services, including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Athena.

Review job alerts and operational issues, gather diagnostic information, perform approved first-level troubleshooting, and escalate issues when they exceed documented procedures or assigned access. Develop and test low-risk code, configuration, data model, and ETL updates in development and test environments using SDS standards and review processes.

Assist with production deployments only under the supervision of an authorized team member and through established change-management processes. Validate data quality, job outputs, and reporting results using approved queries, test cases, and reconciliation procedures. Use Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Terraform-based workflows while learning cloud infrastructure, automation, and controlled deployment practices.

Create and maintain runbooks, monitoring procedures, test evidence, workflow diagrams, and troubleshooting notes. Assist with creating or improving scripts, queries, monitoring checks, and other small-scale automation that reduces repetitive operational work. Participate in technical training, code or configuration reviews, team knowledge-sharing sessions, and stakeholder discussions under the guidance of experienced team members.

Communicate progress, blockers, and findings; follow least-privilege, data-handling, change-management, and credential-management requirements; and perform other duties as assigned. What are we looking for? Currently pursuing a degree or recognized technical program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field, preferably at junior or senior level, or possessing comparable coursework, training, or project experience.

Coursework or project experience with a modern programming or scripting language, preferably Python, Java, or SQL. Foundational knowledge of relational databases, data modelling, and SQL. Foundational knowledge of Linux or another Unix-like operating system. Basic understanding of cloud-computing concepts, such as storage, compute, databases, identity and access management, and monitoring.

Coursework, labs, personal projects, or internship experience involving AWS services such as Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena, or Amazon Cloud. Watch is a plus. Knowledge of, or exposure to, ETL concepts and data warehousing is a plus. Experience with Git or another version-control system; familiarity with CI/CD is a plus.

Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools, such as Terraform, is a plus. Familiarity with scripting, command-line tools, or structured data formats such as CSV and JSON is a plus. Ability to create and execute basic test cases, compare expected and actual results, and document findings accurately. Ability to troubleshoot methodically by reviewing logs, validating inputs and outputs, reproducing issues, documenting observations, and escalating when appropriate.

Organized and dependable, with the ability to complete defined assignments on time, communicate progress and blockers, and collaborate effectively within a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical documentation and status updates. Demonstrated awareness of confidentiality, secure credential handling, least-privilege access, and responsible use of protected or sensitive information.

Ability to understand and follow written policies, procedures, security requirements, and technical directions. Location: This position is based in our Kathmandu, Nepal office.
