Senior Legacy Systems Maintenance Technician

Job description

This position requires an ACTIVE DoD security clearance. Applicants who do not currently hold an active clearance will not be considered. In this role, you’ll contribute to the sustainment and reliability of complex legacy systems, working alongside engineers and technicians to maintain system availability and support technical requirements.

About the role

As a Senior Legacy Systems Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and sustaining legacy system configurations across operational and test environments. You will assess system performance, diagnose complex hardware and software issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and help ensure systems remain reliable and available.

Working as part of a team of engineers, technicians, and government personnel, you’ll resolve technical issues and support system performance, testing, and readiness. This position is ideal for experienced maintenance professionals who enjoy solving technical challenges in a fast-paced, security-conscious environment.

Responsibilities

Perform organizational-level corrective and preventive maintenance on legacy systems and associated equipment. Assess, troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve hardware, software, and system integration issues affecting system reliability. Monitor and maintain legacy system configurations to support operational availability.

Execute documented maintenance procedures, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and functional testing in accordance with technical documentation. Document maintenance actions, discrepancies, repairs, and system status using established maintenance processes and records. Support system testing, validation, and troubleshooting during maintenance and evaluation activities.

Collaborate with government personnel, engineers, logistics teams, and other technicians to resolve complex technical issues. Ensure compliance with applicable safety, cybersecurity, quality assurance, and configuration management requirements.

Required Skills

Minimum seven (7) years of demonstrated experience assessing, troubleshooting, and performing corrective and preventive maintenance on legacy systems and equipment. Demonstrated experience performing documented organizational-level maintenance on legacy system configurations. Experience monitoring, operating, and maintaining legacy system configurations in support of technical and operational requirements.

Experience diagnosing complex hardware, software, and system integration issues within mission-critical technical environments. Ability to read, interpret, and execute technical manuals, engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, and system documentation. Experience documenting maintenance activities and maintaining accurate maintenance records.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment supporting government customers and complex technical operations. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to obtain and maintain required facility access and comply with applicable security and safety requirements.

Preferred Skills

Experience supporting complex government or defense systems. Experience maintaining legacy system configurations or comparable integrated technical platforms. Familiarity with formal maintenance programs, configuration management, and technical documentation processes. Experience supporting system integration, operational testing, or developmental testing activities.

Experience using maintenance management or logistics support systems. Prior military service or experience supporting government or defense programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field. Four (4) additional years of directly related legacy systems maintenance experience may be substituted for the required degree. Relevant technical certifications are desirable but not required. Citizenship and Clearance Requirements: U.S. citizenship required.

No dual citizenship. Active Secret clearance required. Active Top Secret clearance preferred. Location/Address: Full-time onsite. Wallops Island, Virginia. Work performed primarily at designated technical facilities. Travel & Passport: Less than 10% travel. Primarily local support, with occasional domestic travel for training, technical meetings, or support activities.

Work Environment: Work will be performed onsite and at government facilities as required. Travel may be necessary for technical coordination, training, and other business needs.
