Assistant Hair Stylist

If you love working with curly and coily hair, enjoy helping clients feel confident, and want to continue developing your skills, we'd love to meet you! Renaissance Curls is a team-based natural hair salon in Harlem specializing in curly and coily hair. We're looking for experienced Styling Assistants who are passionate about textured hair, committed to excellent client care, and excited to grow in a supportive, education-focused environment.

You'll work alongside experienced stylists, receive hands-on education, and develop your skills while contributing to a team that believes in helping each other succeed.

What You'll Do

Shampoo, detangle, condition, and treat naturally curly and coily hair Assist stylists with client services and preparation Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient salon environment Support the entire team in delivering an excellent client experience Participate in ongoing education, practice, and skill development Training & Growth We believe in developing great stylists through education, practice, and real experience.

90-day foundation program: Learn and demonstrate proficiency in our techniques, service standards, and client experience. Learning Chair: Participate in supervised, hands-on training sessions. Continued development: Opportunities to expand your skills and take on additional responsibilities as you demonstrate proficiency.

Advanced education: Additional training opportunities, including hair color education for eligible cosmetology licensees. Growth opportunities are based on demonstrated skills, performance, reliability, and business needs. Schedule Weekend and evening availability and participation in mandatory Monday training sessions are required.

Additional shifts may become available upon completion of foundational training, based on performance and salon needs. Our hair salon operates Thursday through Monday.

Requirements

Valid Cosmetology License or Natural Hair License 1-2 years of experience styling naturally coily and curly hair Confidence with shampooing, detangling, and basic natural hair styling Skills demo required: If selected, you'll complete a short in-person styling demonstration before we finalize hiring Strong communication skills A positive attitude toward coaching, feedback, and continued learning Consistent attendance, punctuality, and a team-oriented mindset Nice to Have: Photos or portfolio of your work with textured hair Previous salon or customer service experience If you're passionate about natural hair, take pride in your work, and want to grow with a team that values education, collaboration, and excellent client care, we'd love to hear from you!

Salary $17 - $17 per hour
