Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description **

• Role Overview:** Registered Nurses provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their families.

• Core Responsibilities:**

• Patient Assessment & Monitoring:** Perform detailed, timely assessments and monitor patient conditions.

• Care Planning:** Develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals.

• Administration:** Administer medications, treatments, and perform diagnostic tests.

• Patient/Family Education:** Provide education regarding illnesses, treatments, and preventative health measures.

• Advocacy & Support:** Offer emotional support, act as a patient advocate, and ensure compassionate, patient-centered care.

• Documentation:** Maintain accurate, timely medical records.

• Job Requirements:**

• Education:** Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).

• Licensure:** Active, unencumbered RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or compact state).

• Experience:** Previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred, though new graduates are encouraged to apply for residency programs.

• Certification:** BLS (Basic Life Support) is required.
