• VIRGINIA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL Job Description TITLE: SCHOOL NURSE PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide health service and leadership in establishing effective program of school health in the assigned school. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited program of professional registered nursing. Current licensure to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Valid driver’s license. Two years of successful working experience with references giving evidence of competency in nursing care practices. Qualities of character and personality that merit the confidence and respect of students, staff and parents. REPORTS TO: School Nurse Coordinator Principal PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer medication following the policy and procedure of the Bristol Virginia School Board. Provide first aid in schools to students and staff. Keep nursing records on all students seen in school. Conduct vision and scoliosis screening on students per the Bristol Virginia School Board policy including transfer students and record results. Complete a formal vision screening with the Titmus on all third, seventh and tenth grade students. Measure and record height and weight on those students as indicated by the Bristol Virginia School Board policy. Review health appraisals and follow up of all deficiencies reported. Review records as needed to determine the immunization compliance of students as required by Virginia school law. Assist as needed with Health Department sponsored immunization clinics. Advise and assist with managing communicable diseases. Supply and recommend adequate maintenance of clinic room. Assist staff as a consultant in defining health needs of students. Promote monthly health theme as advised. Assist with medical related trainings of the staff as requested by the nursing supervisor. Complete monthly reports and attend monthly nursing staff meetings. Participate in professional in-service growth. Perform any other specific and reasonable duty requested by the building principal or nursing supervisor. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As per contract.
