Job description

Position Summary

The Estimator Assistant supports the preparation and tracking of customer quotes for custom roller and elastomer manufacturing projects. This role helps organize quote requests, review drawings and specifications, gather material and vendor information, maintain quote records, and communicate requirements to internal teams.

The employee will learn how customer requirements, manufacturing processes, labor, materials, and outside services affect cost and lead time. Estimating work is reviewed by an experienced Estimator or designated leader as the employee develops. About ABBA: ABBA Roller specializes in high-performance urethane rollers and custom elastomer solutions for industrial and commercial applications.

Our team supports customers across diverse industries with durable, precision-engineered products. We value hands-on problem solving, craftsmanship, and a workplace where expertise and teamwork drive every success.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with organizing and reviewing quote requests, customer specifications, drawings, and purchase requirements; identify missing information and route questions for review. Help prepare estimate worksheets by collecting material, labor, tooling, outside-service, and production information from approved sources. Request vendor pricing and lead-time information for materials, tooling, outside processing, or specialty components, as directed.

Prepare draft quotes and supporting documentation for review; make updates based on feedback and follow established pricing and approval procedures. Maintain accurate quote files, cost references, customer details, and supporting records in company systems. Track open quote requests and due dates; follow up with internal stakeholders and communicate status updates as directed.

Assist with quote-to-order handoffs by organizing approved requirements and sharing relevant details with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Service. Help research historical job information and compare estimated details with completed work to support quote accuracy and continuous improvement. Learn ABBA Roller products, materials, manufacturing processes, quality requirements, and common cost drivers through on-the-job training and collaboration with experienced employees.

Participate in team discussions and, as training progresses, assist with basic manufacturability reviews and identification of questions or potential risks for experienced team members. Follow company quality standards, safety policies, and business procedures; complete other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. No college degree is required. No prior estimating experience is required. Experience in customer service, data entry, production, purchasing, scheduling, or another manufacturing support role is helpful. Basic math skills and comfort working with numbers, measurements, and detailed information.

Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Excel is preferred. Experience with an ERP, quoting, or customer management system is a plus. Ability to read and follow written instructions and organize drawings, specifications, and other job documents. Experience reading technical drawings is helpful but can be learned.

Careful, dependable, and organized, with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Professional communication skills and willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and work with a range of internal teams. Development and Training On-the-job training will cover ABBA Roller products, manufacturing capabilities, quote procedures, cost information, systems, and documentation standards.

The employee will begin with administrative and information-gathering tasks, then take on additional estimating work as skills and accuracy develop. Progression to an Estimator role may be considered based on demonstrated capability, business needs, and available opportunities; this position does not guarantee promotion.

Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to occasionally walk through manufacturing areas to review processes or materials. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Close vision and ability to review drawings, specifications, and detailed documentation.
