OBJECTIVE: The Assistant Store Leader (ASL) is person is responsible for executing daily store operations at a high level — ensuring our standards, team performance, and financial results are consistently met across every shift. The ASL is not a supervisor who watches from a distance. This is a floor leader who runs the store with discipline, coaches the team in real time, protects the brand, and understands that every decision made on the floor has a financial consequence.
We are looking for someone who thinks and acts like an operator — balancing people, product, and profitability every single day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Store Execution & Standards The store is your responsibility. It should look great from the parking lot to the backroom — every hour, every shift. Execute daily store walks: outside to inside to backroom, identifying gaps before customers do Maintain clean entrances, windows, parking lot, and restrooms Ensure fully stocked, faced, and signed shelves across all departments Keep the backroom organized, labeled, and free of clutter Lead the daily 3-4 PM refresh to reset the store through peak evening hours Ensure a strong close: the store must be ready for the next day's team
- Team Leadership & Development The ASL leads from the floor. If you are in the office, the floor is suffering. Run and support daily huddles — set the tone for every shift Coach team members in real time, in the moment, with specifics Enforce dress code, work standards, and customer interaction expectations consistently Support structured onboarding and training for new team members Identify and develop future leaders — know who is ready to grow Have difficult conversations clearly and professionally — do not avoid accountability
- Customer Experience The customer is why we are here. Every interaction either builds or erodes trust. Ensure every customer is acknowledged and assisted from the moment they walk in Step in immediately when service breaks down — do not let it slide Reinforce cashier standards: loyalty sign-in, proper bagging, speed, and friendliness Maintain visible leadership presence on the floor during peak hours Resolve customer concerns professionally and immediately
- Inventory & Product Control Inventory is cash on the shelf. Protect it. Maintain accuracy through regular cycle counts and zero/negative inventory corrections Enforce proper product rotation — FIFO, no exceptions Keep backstock organized and accurately tracked Execute sell-through plans on slow-moving or aging product Eliminate dead inventory before it becomes shrink
- Ordering & Operational Discipline Missed orders and over-orders are preventable. Discipline in ordering is discipline in finance. Ensure all orders are submitted accurately and on time — no exceptions Base orders on actual inventory counts, not guesswork Support department leaders in improving ordering precision Coordinate inter-store product transfers when needed to prevent waste or out-of-stocks Flag supply chain issues to the Store Director proactively
- Labor Execution Labor is our highest cost. Use it with discipline. Support labor planning that aligns coverage with sales volume by hour and day Ensure proper staffing during peak hours — do not leave the floor exposed Step in to fill coverage gaps rather than leaving departments short Drive productivity — every team member should be engaged and contributing Flag scheduling needs to the Store Director without waiting to be asked
- Communication & Alignment Confusion is a leadership failure. Clarity is the job. Maintain clear, daily communication with the Store Director, Coordinators, and department leads Confirm expectations and follow through — if it was said, it gets done Surface problems early — do not let issues sit until they become crises Communicate to store needs, gaps, and wins accurately and without filtering FINANCIALS: The ASL must understand that every decision made on the floor has a financial consequence. You are not just running a store — you are running a business unit. Strong operational leaders understand the numbers behind what they do. Sales Awareness Know your daily sales targets and track performance against them throughout the shift Recognize the connection between full shelves, strong displays, and peak-hour execution and top-line revenue Understand what drives average basket size and actively support those conditions Gross Margin Understanding Know margin expectations by department — not all revenue is equal Understand how discounting, ordering errors, and shrink directly reduce profitability Ensure promotions are executed correctly so we capture the margin we planned for Shrink Control Manage shrink through rotation discipline, accurate ordering, and timely markdowns Do not over-cut inventory or shrink your way out of product — that kills sales Treat a shrink problem as an ordering and rotation problem fi Labor Cost Awareness Understand labor as a percentage of sales — it must move with volume, not against it Ensure the team is productive and coverage aligns with actual demand Avoid unnecessary overtime and staffing imbalances that quietly erode margin Inventory as Cash Treat every product on the shelf as money — because it is Reduce overstock and dead product; increase turns and sell-through velocity Make decisions that free up working capital while maintaining in-stock position NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all related duties as assigned QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of experience in retail management, with a proven track record of leadership and financial management. Skills: Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in financial management and budgeting. Ability to multitask and manage multiple departments effectively. Physical Abilities: Ability to stand for extended periods. Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. Ability to navigate all areas of the store, including climbing ladders and reaching overhead.
