Buckingham County Public Schools TITLE: Middle School Principal QUALIFICATIONS: Holds a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration & Supervision Prek-12. Prior instructional and leadership experience at the secondary level preferred Demonstrated qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

TERM: 12-month contract REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools SUPERVISES: Staff members designated by the Superintendent of Schools. JOB HIGHLIGHTS: The Middle School Principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school, responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Division to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe student-centric learning environment that meets and/or exceeds the approved standards of learning.

Achieving academic excellence requires that the Middle School Principal work collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.

Performance Responsibilities Use data to collaboratively develop the school improvement plan that reflects the shared mission, vision, core values of high quality education and success /well-being of each student. Foster a professional learning community of teachers and other professional staff to promote each student's academic success and well-being Use research to design and implement an instructional program that meets 21st century competencies.

Model leadership skills for assistant principals. Consult with district personnel on educational and organizational matters. Organize, supervise, and manage the business affairs of the school. Make resources (supplies, money, equipment, etc.) available to the staff. Communicate with parents, teachers, staff, students, and stakeholders.

Establish methods for reporting pupil progress Organize, coordinate, and administer the total activities program. Maintain a program of spectator control at all school activities. Establish attendance accounting procedures. Establish student control and disciplinary procedures Schedule the school academic program. Manage the school facilities.

Improve instructional practices through purposeful observation and evaluation of academic staff. Develop and improve the staff by attracting and retaining competent personnel. Organize, coordinate, and supervise staff assignments. Identify the needs and interests of the building. Foster and maintain school culture. Keep teachers abreast of current educational improvements in order to align curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Plan and evaluate the instructional and curricular programs. Serve as liaison between the school, the district, and the state's office of school quality. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary. Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

Assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, through enrollment in advanced courses and the like. Conduct meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

Plan and supervise fire drills and an emergency preparedness program. Provide for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property. Supervise and evaluate the school's extracurricular program. Participate in principal's meetings. Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.

Respond to written and oral requests for information. Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned.
