THE CLASSICAL ACADEMY POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: JH- Intramural Boys Basketball Coach Department: Activities Date: Updated September 23, 2026 FLSA Status: Exempt STIPEND: $632.52 GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Junior High Intramural Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for organizing, supervising, and coaching middle school boys participating in the intramural basketball program.
The coach promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development in a positive and inclusive environment, while ensuring participant safety and adherence to school and district policies. The season runs from November 16, 2026, through January 16, 2027. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Activities Director The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required.

The Classical Academy reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Plan, organize, and conduct basketball practices and intramural games for junior high boys.
Teach fundamental basketball skills, rules, and strategies appropriate for middle school students. Foster an environment of respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games to ensure safety and positive behavior. Coordinate scheduling of practices and games in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates. Ensure proper use and care of athletic facilities and equipment. Model and reinforce school values and appropriate conduct on and off the court. Uphold all district, school, and intramural athletic program policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED equivalent required Undergraduate degree preferred EXPERIENCE: Prior experience playing or coaching basketball preferred. Experience working with middle school�aged students strongly desired. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to promote a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all participants.
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Must pass required background checks per district policy. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to represent the school community with high character when interacting with a variety of public groups, i.e. leagues, organizations, schools, and media Ability to communicate with all activities staff, as well as parents, students, other staff members, and visitors to the school Demonstrated knowledge of the sport(s) assigned Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing SCOPE OF INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: Schools Activities Director Activities Office Staff Secondary Students Parents Other departments Sports Officials Assistant Coaches WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in the practice area and/or event area Work hours may vary depending on the needs of the activities office and practice needs, and may include days, evenings, and weekends PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.

Typical demands require the employee to: Spend majority of work time standing and walking while performing job duties Frequently lift burdens weighing up to 30 lbs. and occasionally push/pull burdens weighing up to 100 lbs. Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of athletic equipment, other equipment, and writing utensils COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS: The following are some of the cognitive functions commonly associated with this position.

This position is stipend-based and therefore does not include benefits other than paid sick leave as outlined by the Healthy Families Healthy Workplace Act.
