STEAM Makerspace Manager DEPARTMENT: STEAM REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Fine Arts and STEAM WORK SCHEDULE: 200 COMPENSATION: $47,200 – $64,080 FULL/PART TIME: Full Time FLSA STATUS: Exempt Position Description The STEAM Makerspace Manager oversees the operation and maintenance of the Makerspace, including managing equipment, supplies, scheduling, and staffing to ensure optimal functionality.
This role supports teachers and staff in designing and executing project-based learning (PBL) and engineering class projects, while also specifying, procuring, and organizing materials. The Manager leads after-school programs, builds and maintains exhibits of student work, and serves as the primary liaison for technology support and facility maintenance.
Additionally, they promote Makerspace and STEAM Trunk programs, maintain accurate records, and foster a safe, inclusive environment for all users. The Makerspace Manager also designs and crafts exhibits of student work. Task Title Essential Job Functions Percent of Time Spent Makerspace Leadership Maintain records and provide necessary information on use and interest statistics as needed.
Participate in the promotion and development of the Makerspace. Manage all Makerspace programming for students and staff 20% Student and Staff Support Support teachers and staff in creating and executing project-based learning and engineering projects. Support students in extracurricular competitions. Lead two weekly after school clubs.
Train and advise student worker teams and community volunteers. Build and maintain exhibits of student work. Maintain existing displays. 40% Operations Manage daily operations of the Makerspace by scheduling usage and staffing. Advise, procure and maintain equipment, supplies, and materials. Provide a clean, safe environment for all users in the Makerspace.
Manage the planning of facilities maintenance in the Makerspace as primary liaison with facilities and technology. Collaborate with staff from other departments to ensure Makerspace equipment is ready to use and in good functioning order Installs, maintains, and trains instructional staff on innovative Maker Tech [equipment, applications, etc.
] Maintains the structure and equipment on 10 STEAM Trunks. 40% Maker Events Coordinate one Makerspace sponsored event. Support other campus maker/STEAM events as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (B.A., B.S., B.S.N., etc) in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Arts (Sculpture/ 3d Design) or related. Previous Work-Related Experience: 1-3 years work-related experience is required. Two years of progressively responsible Maker experience or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Use of design software required: TinkerCAD, Auto. Desk, Adobe Suite, Meshy AI, On. Shape, etc. Teaching experience preferred (summer camp, after school programming, or other work with K-12 students). Training of adult learners Preferred Program development experience preferred. Knowledge & Skills Knowledge Business & Management Knowledge: Administrative: Administrative and office procedures, functions and basic office tasks.
Management: Business/management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources. Operations and Technology Knowledge: Custodial/Grounds/Maintenance: Machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance. Computers/IT: Electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
Skilled Trades and Construction: Materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures. Services Knowledge: Customer and Personal Service: Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Education/Training: Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction, and measuring training effects.
