Job Title: Adjunct Instructor Status / FLSA Status: TEMP Classification: Professional Support Department: Adult and Secondary Education Reports To: Director, Adult and Secondary Education Location: District-Wide Date Reviewed: May 2024 Date Updated: May 2024 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Adjunct instructors instruct students, participate in appropriate curricular and co-curricular assignments and functions, and perform the necessary administrative obligations.
RESPONSIBILTIES / PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following duties, which represent a minimum of 10% of the employee’s time. List the job's essential or most important functions and responsibilities. Include all important aspects of the job-whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually; and any that occur at irregular intervals.
(Continue this list on another sheet if necessary.) Plans and teaches courses in assigned course. Prepares syllabi, instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates. Maintains highest possible standards of classroom instruction. Keeps abreast of new information and developments in field of instruction through regular professional development.
Actively participates in institutional meetings. Administers pre- and post-tests (CASAS) according to the assessment guidelines. Assists with the development of curriculum. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Thoroughly and accurately responds to individual inquiries. Enters data into the College's systems with a high level of accuracy, in a timely manner.
Represents the College in a professional manner. Treats each individual with respect and courtesy regardless of diversity, ability, or socioeconomic status. Maintains a high level of attendance. Appropriately manages multiple and competing priorities while working independently with a high level of responsibility and initiative.
Uses problem-solving abilities to define problems, collect information, and establish facts; thus, drawing valid conclusions. Performs job responsibilities within the philosophies of the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Spoon River College. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field a regionally accredited institution is required. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Experience with disadvantaged individuals preferred. Demonstrated ability to use technology in teaching is required. Familiarity with basic online academic technology, such as Canvas, is preferred.
Teacher certification is preferred. Physical demands for this position include the ability to regularly sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. This position requires limited standing, walking, reaching, stooping / kneeling. Vision requirements for this position include close vision including the ability to view text from a computer monitor. This position requires some driving, the majority of which is within the College district.
Work environment for this position includes typical office environment with no extremes in temperature, noise, and limited physical risk.
