  • Principles of Soil Science Course description : A study of the processes of pedogenesis and the development of diverse soil profiles, their field relationships and their response to changing environmental conditions.An examination of the fundamental soil properties of importance in soil management. An introduction to the techniques of soil examination in the field, soil analysis in the laboratory and the basic principles of soil classification. Estimated course enrolment : 120 Number of Hours: 0.5 FCE Estimated TA support : TA support consistent with enrollment will be provided. Class schedule : Lectures in-person: Fridays 10 am - 12 pm at UTSC campus Please note we can't adjust the lecture schedule, so please only apply if you are available during the times above. Timetable link: https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/registrar/timetable Sessional dates of appointment : January 1, 2027 – April 30, 2027 Salary : Starting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,997.48 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,953.96 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,953.96 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,228.90 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. The rate of pay is established by the Collective Agreement between Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3902 Unit 3 and the University of Toronto.

Minimum qualifications

PhD in Environmental Science, Forestry, or Geography. Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position. Description of duties : All duties related to the teaching of a university credit undergraduate course, including preparation of lectures, lecturing, supervising laboratories, creation of exams, term tests and assignments; marking, marks management and supervision of TAs.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
