Receptionist (Thurs. - Sat. 7a - 8p) - Watch Us Grow!
Job description
At Houston Hospice, we believe that the heart of our organization are the people who work here. Since 1980, we’ve grown to become the oldest and largest independent nonprofit hospice in the Greater Houston area. What truly defines us is our commitment to walking alongside patients and their families during some of life’s most tender moments.
Our mission is simple: to provide uncompromising, compassionate, end-of-life care to patients of all ages and their families. Serving the 13 counties that surround the Houston area, we are committed to being the highest quality hospice provider wherever we serve. We focus on caring, not curing. Our approach is grounded in teamwork and trust by bringing together skilled healthcare professionals who all share a common purpose: to bring those on our service comfort, dignity, and peace.
Whether care is provided in a family’s home, in a long-term care facility, or in our IPU in the Texas Medical Center, our team is dedicated to meeting patients where they are, both physically and emotionally. Our doctors and nurses are experts in easing pain and managing complex symptoms of life-limiting illnesses. The work we do allows our patients and families to focus on what matters most: being together.
Be the welcoming face and voice of Houston Hospice: Houston Hospice is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and service-oriented Receptionist to support our Texas Medical Center location. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming and professional experience for patients, families, caregivers, visitors, healthcare partners, and members of our community.
As one of the first points of contact for Houston Hospice, the Receptionist must be comfortable assisting individuals who may be experiencing serious illness, grief, loss, or end-of-life concerns. The Right Fit: Working out of our TMC location, the ideal candidate is calm under pressure, communicates with warmth and professionalism, and can confidently manage multiple priorities while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in reception, customer service, call handling, healthcare, hospice, or a related office environment preferred. Experience using multi-line telephone or cloud-based communication systems is preferred. Working knowledge of common office technology and software, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic records or databases.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including a clear and professional telephone presence and appearance. Bilingual or multilingual capability is preferred, when relevant to the communities served. Ability to provide compassionate service while maintaining professional boundaries. Ability to manage multiple calls, visitors, messages, and priorities accurately and with appropriate urgency.
Sound judgment in determining when and how to escalate a concern. Strong attention to detail, follow-through, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information and other sensitive information. Ability to work effectively with employees, leaders, clinical teams, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.
Comfort working in an environment where serious illness, death, dying, and grief are part of the organization's services. Duties/Responsibilities: Answer and route incoming calls promptly, professionally, and compassionately. Greet visitors, determine their needs, and connect them with the appropriate staff member or resource.
Take accurate messages and help ensure timely communication and follow-up. Recognize urgent or sensitive concerns and follow established escalation procedures. Maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional front reception area. Assist with correspondence, deliveries, documents, visitor processes, directories, and front-office resources.
Provide general administrative support, including data entry, scanning, copying, and document handling. Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure smooth, appropriate handoffs for callers and visitors. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, privacy, safety, and information-security requirements.
Demonstrate empathy, patience, professionalism, and respect in every interaction. IND123 Thurs.
