Payment Verification & Compliance Analyst Client: Government of Alberta – Education and Childcare Location: Edmonton, Alberta Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote + Occasional Onsite Hours: 36.25 hours/week | 7.25 hours/day Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta Time Contract Hours: 739.5 hours Interview Window: October 15–22, 2026 (estimated) About the Role The Government of Alberta is seeking Post-Payment Verification Analysts to support the accuracy, accountability, and compliance of government-funded childcare programs.
The successful candidates will review funding claims, supporting documentation, financial and operational information, and program records. They will identify discrepancies, validate information, apply government policies and procedures, and prepare clear documentation and recommendations. This role is well suited to professionals with experience in program administration, financial review, grants administration, benefits administration, compliance, data analysis, payment verification, quality assurance, or audit-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
Review funding claims and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Analyze financial, operational, and program information to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies. Interpret and apply legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines, funding agreements, and program requirements. Validate information using multiple sources and supporting documentation.
Calculate adjustments, recoveries, overpayments, and other financial impacts. Prepare correspondence, reports, summaries, findings, recommendations, and supporting documentation. Maintain accurate records, working papers, and electronic files. Communicate with operators and stakeholders regarding documentation requirements and review findings.
Support resolution of discrepancies and escalate complex issues when required. Identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for process improvement. Participate in risk-based reviews, monitoring, verification, and compliance activities.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED. 3+ years of experience with MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. 3+ years of experience with accurate data processing and/or data entry. 1+ year of experience in business writing, communication, and documentation. 3+ years of experience working in government or a highly regulated industry involving complex policies and procedures.
3+ years of experience working with clients/stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify discrepancies and assess information from multiple sources. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Experience with compliance reviews, monitoring, quality assurance, verification, or similar activities.
Experience calculating financial adjustments, recoveries, or overpayments. Experience using case management systems, databases, records-management systems, or similar business applications. Experience with risk-based review, monitoring, assessment, or audit-related activities. Nice-to-Have Qualifications Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline .
3+ years of experience with financial reporting and ensuring financial accuracy. 1+ year of experience within a Canadian Public Sector organization. 1+ year of experience working with childcare grant funding programs in Alberta. Work Location Requirements This is a primarily remote position . Candidates must reside in Edmonton or within approximately one hour's driving distance of the Edmonton office .
Candidates must be available for occasional onsite attendance, up to approximately 10% of total hours , when required. While working remotely, the candidate must remain physically located within Alberta . Office location: Forestry Building, 9920–108 Street NW, Edmonton, AB. Working Hours 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta Time, Monday to Friday , excluding Alberta provincial holidays.
Additional Requirements Standard criminal record/background check required before commencement. Successful candidates must complete mandatory Government of Alberta training, including: FOIP Security/Cybersecurity Information Management Respect in the Workplace Other applicable training Equipment The Government of Alberta will provide: Laptop Required system access and credentials Office space, furniture, and supplies when working onsite
