INSTRUCTOR Open Until Filled Open Until Filled – Part Time Temporary Positions Fauquier County Parks and Recreation is seeking passionate instructors to teach a variety of topic-specific classes or events. This vacancy is open to both general instructors and archery instructors. General Instructors are encouraged to bring their expertise and creativity to propose and lead programs for infants, toddlers, youth, teens, and/or adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and teach participants proper techniques in a topic-specific class or event.
• Provide overall operation and administration of instructional programs, which may include supervising volunteers, keeping accurate records of participant progress, and planning and coordinating future classes.
• Create programs for diverse participants and respond to daily changing needs and environments.
• Maintain an efficient, well-organized, and productive instructional setting to enhance participants’ leisure skills and overall quality of life.
• Attend required training programs.
• Plan and prepare lessons for participants of all ages, including youth, teens, and adults.
• Maintain discipline and a positive learning environment.
• Supervise volunteers and assistant instructors through clear communication.
• Consult with the Recreation Programmer regarding scheduling, program participants, facilities, or other operational matters.
• Prepare lesson plans and utilize effective teaching techniques.
• Complete instruction of skills for each progressive level and evaluate participant progress.
• Maintain open communication with the Recreation Programmer, participants, parents/families, and volunteers.
• Ensure all safety precautions are implemented. Archery-Specific Responsibilities (if applying as Archery Instructor):
• Lead archery classes at C.M. Crockett Park or other Fauquier County Parks and Recreation outdoor locations, including setup and takedown of temporary ranges. The 2026 season will begin in April.
• Bring expertise and ideas to propose new archery programs.
• Program dates and times can be adapted to instructors’ schedules for the right personnel (weekends or weekday afternoons).
• Ensure safety in all aspects of archery instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

• General Instructor: o Minimum of 1 year of instruction experience (at least 30 hours/year in the past 3 years) or 2 years of training experience/certification if required. o Experience in recreational settings preferred. o CPR and First Aid certification required. o Ability to work with children and adults of diverse backgrounds. o Strong communication and interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, mature, and in good physical health.
• Archery Instructor: o Must meet general instructor requirements above. o Minimum of 1 year of archery instruction experience or willingness to obtain Level 1 USA Archery Coach Certification or higher prior to the Spring program season. o USA Archery Range Safety Officer Certification highly preferred. National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Certifications are acceptable.
