About the Role
Under close or immediate supervision, performs cooking and other food preparation duties at a Port Authority Cafeteria. Receives written or oral instructions from Facility Cafeteria Supervisor and Food Services Supervisor on food to be prepared but uses judgment in the preparation. Work is checked through inspection of food cooking and preparation processes and of completed work.
Food is prepared for use in a cafeteria, a dining room, and for special occasions. Cooks are responsible for performing their duties in a manner that creates a favorable impression through exceptional customer service and professionalism.
Responsibilities
Receives and signs for delivery of meats and vegetables check quantity and quality and recommend acceptance or rejection of food Estimates requirements and lists food needed from stock for its own phase of the activity. Recommends changes in the given weekly menu to suit the day’s needs depending on the supply of items.
Assists in the preparation of the weekly menu Prepares for cooking or service: meats, vegetables, fruits, desserts, and occasionally pastry. Prepares basic cooked food requirements for salads and sandwiches, soups, and gravy Cook meats, vegetables, and soups in a variety of styles from standardized recipes provided Cleans and is responsible for proper cleaning, care, and storage of utensils and equipment used Prepares special types of foods for special affairs Oversees the work of Food Service.
Worker2 assigned at the facility Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position Education: High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required Experience: Five years experience in cooking a variety of foods, including experience with large scale cooking in an industrial type of cafeteria operation, corporate catering, or fine dining experience.

Selection Process All qualified candidates will participate in an oral exam and practical exam. Oral Exam: The oral exam will measure a candidates' abilities in such areas as: Situational Judgment, Problem Sensitivity, Flexibility, Decision Making, Customer Service, Interpersonal Skills, and Oral Communication.
Practical Exam: The practical exam will measure candidates' abilities in areas such as: Food safety procedures, knife skills, and following recipes. Selected candidates who are made a conditional job offer will be asked to undergo a background check. Only applicants under consideration will be contacted.

The starting salary for the Cook position is: $41,106.00. This salary is subject to the collective bargaining agreement for this position.
