We're looking for a Summer 2027 Software Engineering Intern who is a member of the Application Software Development team at MTS Test & Simulation.

The team is responsible for the design, creation, and continual improvement of MTS application software focused on high-performance motion control and data acquisition systems What You'll Do: Design, develop, and implement new concepts and features in a complex, object-oriented system Be involved in the design and implementation of control and signal processing algorithms Design, code, test, and document software solutions for specific customer feature requests Work in Agile/Scrum and Stage-Gate development processes to deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced environment Feature development - including working with stakeholders (Product Management, QA, Tech support etc.)

Provide input on software development best practices in order to support our environment of continuous improvement Develop, enhance features and fix bugs in MTS Test. Suite application software used by customers to define, run, and analyze tests Write client application software that interfaces with test hardware such as controllers, transducers, and data acquisition devices through drivers, APIs, and communication protocols Use AI-assisted development tools (e.

g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) responsibly to accelerate design, coding, code review, testing, and documentation, while verifying AI-generated output for correctness, security, and compliance with MTS policies Minimum Qualifications: Junior/Senior year working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent Demonstrated ability to produce clean, efficient, and reliable code in C# Proficient in developing and maintaining automated software tests Creative thinker and strong problem solver Ability and eagerness to take ownership of tasks and work with minimal supervision on the solution Ability to communicate effectively and learn from others Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and an understanding of their limitations, including the need to review and verify AI-generated code Coursework or project experience writing software that interacts with physical hardware (e.

g., instruments, sensors, motors, or lab equipment) from a PC or host application Preferred Qualifications: Working towards a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent Experience with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Win. Forms and UI/UX development Experience with MVVM design pattern Experience with Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, and Git Experience with Windows/RTOS (Linux), Python scripting etc.

Experience applying AI tools within a structured development process, such as prompt engineering, AI-assisted test generation, or integrating LLM/agent-based workflows (e.g., APIs, MCP) into software Experience with hardware communication interfaces and protocols (e.g., Ethernet/TCP/IP, USB, Modbus, or 3rdparty SDKs and drivers) Exposure to test, measurement, or laboratory automation environments (e.

g., materials testing, data acquisition, LabVIEW, or similar) Awareness of responsible-AI and secure development practices, including data privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory considerations Strong communication skills in both verbal and written form with ability to influence others Physical Demands (U.S. only): The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Compensation
