Position Summary
The Food Warehouse CDL Driver is responsible for safely operating a 26-foot truck to pick up and distribute food, while supporting day-to-day warehouse operations when not on the road. Please note: The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Friday, 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This position does not require weekend work.
Principal Responsibilities: Pick up food from partner agencies, suppliers, and other donors Deliver food to agencies courteously and on time Oversee the loading and unloading of the truck Maintain accurate vehicle logs and track deliveries Coordinate pickups and deliveries with other drivers Perform routine truck maintenance and daily vehicle inspections Support day-to-day warehouse operations when needed (including moving pallets, stacking product, organizing the warehouse, and conducting inventory) Additional responsibilities as assigned Competencies: Significant organizational skills Strong attention to detail Excellent time management skills Problem-Solving / Adaptability Ability to work independently and on a team Superior customer service skills Skill and Education: High-school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience (required) Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with clean driving record (required) 5+ years of experience driving a truck with a CDL Ability to operate warehouse equipment including electric jacks and forklift (required); 5+ years of experience operating warehouse equipment (preferred) Familiarity with New York City roads Comfortable using an iPad/tablet and smartphone for data entry, inventory management, and communication Ability to read/write/speak English Physical Demands/Special Requirements: Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and performing manual labor both indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather.
Requires the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items (up to 30-pounds to stock shelves) on a regular basis. Steel-toe work boots must be worn at all times while in the warehouse. Clothing should be appropriate for a professional setting and public interactions, avoiding any profanity, political statements or offensive branding.
Compensation
$21 - $25 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience Benefits: Major medical, dental, vision and life insurance; pre-tax commuter benefits; FSA; 403(b) with employer contribution; plus generous vacation, sick leave and holidays.
