Senior Planner

Northamptonshire, United KingdomPosted Sep 1, 2026

Job description

Shift type and hours: Average of 40 hours per week on a 5 on, 2 off shift pattern. Fixed pattern Tuesday to Saturday, with flexibility to meet the needs of the operation where required. We’re looking for a Senior Planner who can deliver excellent service to our customers through capable leadership of the Primary Planning team at Crick, leading transport plans to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

After all, you don’t get to be one of the UK’s most loved retailers without exceeding customer expectations. What You’ll be doing: Review the daily transport plan and implement changes and improvements to keep it moving in the right direction. Lead, support and motivate a small planning team, using a practical and hands-on management approach.

Plan driver, unit and trailer resources effectively to support the operation. Monitor planning performance, including plan versus actual and key planning measures, to deliver a consistent standard. Identify trends and make changes to support future events and operational requirements. Communicate effectively with colleagues, other departments, customers and suppliers, including supporting backhaul opportunities.

Identify efficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities across the planning operation. What makes a great Senior Planner: Some previous planning experience, with experience of planning within a logistics environment essential. Basic hands-on leadership or management experience, ideally supporting a small team. Good attention to detail, time management and organisational skills.

Able to prioritise competing demands, solve problems and make sound decisions while working independently or as part of a team. Good communication skills and the confidence to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders. An understanding of health and safety requirements within an operational environment.

Comfortable using Microsoft packages and transport planning systems such as Enterprise, Paragon or Ortec. We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. The role does not have to come from a fast-paced environment, provided you have relevant logistics planning experience and can support a small team effectively.

Diversity and inclusion are key, so you’ll be a role model who encourages all colleagues to be themselves at work, while recognising great performance and celebrating progress. We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work/life balance. That’s waiting for you right here. Supply Chain and Logistics is the engine room that gets thousands of products from farms and factories, through the business and to millions of customers every day.

We plan around everything from barbecue weekends to Sunday roasts, supporting those who want oven-ready cauliflower cheese and those who prefer to make it from scratch. Insight and data are everything. But so is judgement — when there’s an issue or ambiguity anywhere, we’re often the first to spot it. There’s a big transformation underway.

It calls for people who champion change, bring others with them, and collaborate and communicate. Because those people can go a very long way here.
