The Nightingale Flex program provides an opportunity for retired Cleveland Clinic RNs to continue using their nursing expertise in a flexible inpatient support role. Caregivers in this position support inpatient nursing teams with admissions, discharges, patient education and other clinical and administrative activities, helping bedside nurses focus on direct patient care without taking on a traditional patient assignment. This PRN role provides an opportunity to remain connected to Cleveland Clinic, support fellow caregivers, contribute to quality patient care and participate in special projects or additional program activities while maintaining flexibility in scheduling. A caregiver in this position works variable shifts of 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours and is required to work a minimum of 192 hours per calendar year. The current work location is Hillcrest Hospital. The program will expand to additional Cleveland Clinic hospitals based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care. Provide coaching, teaching, and educational material as appropriate. Assess and coordinate patients’ admission planning, discharge planning and educational needs. Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions. Evaluate, update and revise plans of care. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Minimum qualifications

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a RN Hospital position at the Cleveland Clinic prior to retirement. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Preferred qualifications: Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for periods of time.

Ability to sit at a computerized workstation for extended periods. May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
