  • Chandler Leadership Coordinator Job Description Chandler Leadership Coordinator (CLC) The Chandler Leadership Coordinator is responsible for developing and leading Camp Chandler’s Leader in Training (LIT) program, a two-week leadership experience designed for campers entering their final camper year. The program is focused on helping young leaders build confidence, kindness, responsibility, independence, and the skills necessary to become successful counselors and positive leaders within their communities. The Chandler Leadership Coordinator will oversee three two-week LIT sessions throughout the summer and will create a structured, engaging, and fun curriculum that balances hands-on camp leadership experiences with personal growth and valuable life skills. Through mentorship, real-world responsibilities, and exposure to various areas of camp, LITs will learn what it means to lead with confidence, serve others, and positively influence those around them. Primary Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and lead Camp Chandler’s LIT program across three two-week sessions. Create a comprehensive and engaging LIT curriculum centered around leadership, kindness, confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and personal growth. Provide LITs with hands-on opportunities to experience and understand the responsibilities of a Camp Chandler counselor. Serve as a positive mentor, role model, and trusted adult for LIT participants. Build meaningful relationships with LITs and create an environment where they feel supported, challenged, valued, and encouraged to grow. Develop age-appropriate lessons and activities focused on leadership, communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, decision-making, professionalism, and personal responsibility. Incorporate valuable life and career skills into the program, including resume building, interview preparation, communication, goal setting, time management, and workplace expectations. Coordinate opportunities for LITs to shadow and assist various Camp Chandler departments and programs. Provide LITs with hands-on experiences such as distributing camper mail, shadowing activity areas and Lifeguards, assisting with kitchen and dining hall operations, serving meals, cleaning, and supporting other camp programs. Coordinate with Camp Chandler leadership to ensure LITs receive meaningful and age-appropriate experiences across multiple areas of camp. Assist LITs in pursuing appropriate certifications, which may include CPR/First Aid, Lifeguarding, or other relevant certifications based on program needs and available opportunities. Teach LITs the importance of professionalism, dependability, responsibility, kindness, and serving others. Help LITs understand what it means to be a role model for younger campers and how their actions influence those around them. Create opportunities for LITs to practice leadership by giving them appropriate responsibilities and allowing them to take ownership of projects and activities. Provide constructive feedback and coaching to help LITs recognize their strengths and identify areas for growth. Monitor LIT participation, progress, behavior, and overall experience throughout each session. Plan meaningful group discussions, reflection activities, team-building experiences, and leadership challenges. Balance educational and professional development opportunities with games, activities, camp traditions, and fun experiences that make the LIT program feel like camp. Create an environment where LITs are encouraged to be themselves, build confidence, try new things, and develop a genuine love for serving others. Help LITs understand the pathway from camper to staff member and prepare them for potential future employment at Camp Chandler. Complete additional leadership development, programming, and camp responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Director. Expectations The Chandler Leadership Coordinator must be able to create and maintain a positive, encouraging, and engaging environment for LIT participants while balancing the educational and developmental goals of the program with the fun and excitement of summer camp. This position requires strong communication, organization, patience, creativity, and the ability to build genuine relationships with teenagers. The Chandler Leadership Coordinator should model the qualities they are teaching, including kindness, confidence, responsibility, humility, professionalism, and a willingness to serve others. This individual must be comfortable challenging LITs to step outside of their comfort zones while providing the encouragement and support necessary for them to succeed. The Coordinator should understand that the goal is not simply to teach LITs how to be counselors, but to help them discover who they are, recognize their potential, and become confident young leaders who positively impact the people around them.
