DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP).
Our community-based programs include services for youth at home, in school, or in systems of care.
JOB SUMMARY
As an integral part of the Workforce Development team, the Youth Alumni Program Coordinator coordinates retention strategies that transition participants from vocational training into active alumni engagement. This role collaborates across departments to support youth aging out of programs, provides supportive services and mentorship coordination, and strengthens long-term participant stability.
This position tracks alumni outcomes, manages data and reporting requirements, oversees alumni communications and events, and ensures continuous program evaluation and improvement to meet organizational and funder goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
% of Role 25 Program Coordination & Strategy Coordinate and implement a comprehensive retention strategy that transitions vocational training participants into alumni status Lead a peer mentorship program connecting alumni with current youth participants Evaluate alumni program initiatives and events, identifying successes, challenges, and recommendations for improvement Support strategic development of the aged-out system to ensure continuity of services for youth transitioning from all department programs 35 Participant Engagement & Support Services Partner with Workforce Development team coordinate and strengthen participant engagement and retention Provide appointment-based supportive services to alumni and connect them to appropriate community resources Partner with the Mentoring Navigator to ensure all alumni are matched with mentors Build rapport with participants to promote progression from program enrollment to active alumni involvement 10 Data Management & Reporting Maintain and coordinate alumni database systems in partnership with Youth Academy and IT teams to ensure accurate tracking of youth transitions Track and report on alumni outcomes related to housing, employment, health, and overall stability Prepare monthly and funder-required reports detailing alumni program performance Collect, analyze, and distribute program evaluations to leadership, staff, and the Steering Committee 10 Event Coordination Plan and coordinate alumni events, collaborating with task force as necessary Ensure events align with program goals and participant engagement strategies Provide regular updates to leadership on alumni engagement and event outcomes 20 Administrative & Operational Support Regularly communicate with alumni via email to ensure they are receiving updates, resources, and support Maintain organized program documentation and records Support cross-departmental collaboration to ensure smooth program operations Perform additional duties as assigned to meet organizational and funder requirements QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people Minimum 2 years’ experience in program development, volunteer management and working with at-risk youth Experience in psychology, sociology or related field or bachelor’s degree Working knowledge of the Los Angeles County network of social services Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and databases Sensitivity to and appreciation of the needs and challenges of gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and questioning youth and other marginalized and at-risk youth Ability to work effectively and collegially with people of diverse education levels, abilities, races, ethnicities, spiritual affiliations, gender identities, ages and sexual orientations Available to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering diversity within its staff.
