Role Overview As Clinical Director, you will be responsible for the overall performance of the clinic across clinical, financial, and people dimensions. You are an experienced veterinary surgeon and leader who is passionate about what Creature Comforts is building.

You will have the autonomy to lead your clinic within our framework, supported by the wider Creature Comforts leadership team. You will directly manage, develop, and support the vet team, Head Nurse, and Practice Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence Spend approximately 80% of your time in clinical practice, leading by example Enable all team members to work to the full extent of their qualifications Ensure the highest standards of clinical care across all patient interactions Lead clinical governance, identifying performance issues and implementing improvement plans Direct education and CPD within the team, committing to an evidence-based approach Organise and implement clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives Identify and develop new clinical opportunities for the practice Business Performance Ensure membership is a consistent focus across the clinical team Direct relevant team members to achieve membership and client acquisition objectives Develop and lead the local clinic strategy, overseeing HR, health & safety, marketing, and client care Ensure client experience standards are consistently high: clear communication, empathetic care, and completed consent forms and estimates Oversee client complaints, both clinical and non-clinical Understand and manage the practice P&L, KPIs, and budget to drive financial performance Understand and contribute to the practice's speed to financial sustainability as part of your broader commercial development Ensure all work is correctly charged for and that the pricing system is understood by the team Leadership and People Management Be the clinical figurehead of the clinic, leading the team by example Directly manage the Veterinary Surgeons, Head Nurse, and Practice Manager through regular 1:1s and performance development reviews Ensure effective cascade of information and regular, documented team meetings Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and psychological safety, including open use of Vet.

Safe Support team wellbeing: identify issues early, utilise mental health first-aid resources, and signpost to appropriate support Advocate for Creature Comforts within the veterinary industry and local community Compliance and Governance Ensure Health & Safety policy is understood and implemented across the clinic Maintain compliance with RCVS standards and all relevant regulatory requirements Ensure accurate record keeping and GDPR compliance across all clinical and administrative processes Requirements Experience Essential At least 8 years' post-qualification experience as a veterinary surgeon (MRCVS), with extensive small animal clinical experience At least 3 years in a leadership role with direct line management responsibility Proven experience of managing a P&L or budget Desirable 10+ years' clinical experience Coaching or mentoring experience A track record of building and developing high-performing teams Qualifications Essential MRCVS registration Desirable A certificate or AVP in a clinical discipline A leadership or business qualification, such as ILM or an MBA Knowledge Essential Clinical standards, audit and governance Team engagement and building a positive culture Client care, including conflict and complaint resolution Financial management, including KPIs and budgeting Desirable Marketing fundamentals HR best practice Recruitment and onboarding Skills and abilities Essential Excellent verbal and written communication Strong time management and prioritisation Leadership and people development Financial literacy, including a good understanding of P&L Good IT skills Desirable Coaching and mentoring An advanced area of clinical expertise Public relations or community engagement Personal qualities Integrity and honesty A commitment to continuous learning An entrepreneurial mindset The ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure A fair, kind and inclusive leadership style What We Offer 210 hours' annual leave plus bank holidays, and your birthday off after one year's service Salary sacrifice pension scheme (5% employee, 3% employer contribution) £1,500 CPD allowance and 5 days of dedicated study leave Access to our healthcare incentive after one year of employment Genuine career progression as we grow across London and beyond A supportive, inclusive culture where your development is taken seriously Regular team and company social events Upon successful completion of your probationary period, you may become eligible to participate in the Creature Comforts share options scheme, subject to the scheme rules and eligibility criteria in place at the time The opportunity to be part of something genuinely different in veterinary care Employee Assistance Programme and Mental Health First Aiders Free snacks and lunch in clinic Monthly peer recognition schemes Celebrating clinic milestones Equal Opportunities At Creature Comforts, we believe the best teams are built from diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences.
