Assistant/Associate Professor of Microbiology
Job description
MISSION: To educate Christians who will make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. SUMMARY: The Department of Math and Science seeks a full-time faculty member with expertise in microbiology to support growing biology, kinesiology, agriculture, and nursing programs. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for teaching microbiology lecture and laboratory courses and will contribute to the broader science curriculum based on departmental needs and the candidate's areas of expertise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach undergraduate microbiology lecture and laboratory courses. Develop and maintain high-quality laboratory and classroom experiences in microbiology. Teach additional courses within the Math and Science Department based on departmental needs and the candidate's areas of expertise. Develop course schedules, syllabi, and instructional materials.
Identify and meet the learning needs of students. Develop and administer formative and summative assessments of student learning. Advise and mentor undergraduate students. Support undergraduate research and/or other experiential learning opportunities as appropriate. Participate in departmental and university service and contribute to the continued growth and development of Math and Science programs.
Perform biblical integration in alignment with Corban University's Statement of Faith. Work closely and maintain consistent communication with the department chair to ensure instructional alignment with Math and Science Department outcomes. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong knowledge of microbiology and contemporary microbiological laboratory methods.
Ability to effectively teach microbiology at the undergraduate level in both lecture and laboratory settings. Ability to teach across multiple areas of the undergraduate science curriculum. Commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring. Ability to engage students with a range of academic backgrounds and career goals.
Ability to integrate Christian faith and a biblical worldview thoughtfully within the sciences. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty across Biology, Chemistry, Kinesiology, Agriculture, Nursing, and related disciplines. Interest in contributing to the continued development and growth of undergraduate science programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduate degree in microbiology, biology, or a closely related field. Academic or professional expertise in microbiology. Demonstrated ability or potential to teach undergraduate microbiology lecture and laboratory courses. Evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the university's mission as described in our Statement of Faith.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in microbiology, biology, or a closely related field. Teaching experience at the college or university level. Experience or expertise in additional areas of the science curriculum, such as general biology, General, Organic and Biological (GOB) Chemistry, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, or related fields.
Experience mentoring undergraduate research or involving students in laboratory or field-based research. WORKING CONDITIONS: Traditional classroom, laboratory, and office environment. Some evening or weekend responsibilities may be required for laboratory activities, student research, departmental events, or university functions.
The position may involve standing for extended periods and routine handling of laboratory materials and equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
